I tried to call the phone number for Windy City. The phone has been disconnected. To bad; it would be convenient for visiting a friend of mine in the Chicago burbs.

I updated my map info to indicate that it is defunct.

Looks like I need a different kind of icon to indicate parks that are only "of historical interest."

Try Illinois Beach State Park. It's actually not too far from the gardens.

I agree with John, check out Windy City Campground. The phone # is (708)720-0030. They are within 25 miles of downtown Chicago. It's just west of Interstate 57 off of I-80 at Exit 148B. I've been by there and it looks pretty nice.

Thanks Jeff, I'll check out the state park. Bob, it appears from previous messages that Windy City is permanently closed.

Windy City RV Park is closed and the number has been disconnected. Sorry, I was busy doing important things like work and did not have time in the short window allowed to edit my message.

Who ever heard of only allowing 60 minutes to edit your own message. What is this kindergarten

ILlinois Beach State Park is probably as close a campground to the Botanical Gardens as you will find in the Chicago area. They're only about 25 miles apart. I don't have firsthand knowledge of the park, but I've heard it's pretty nice.

When I stayed in the Windy City a 45 minute drive would mean starting at 5am, 5:15 meant a hour drive and 5:30 was a hour and half drive to two hours. I stayed in Joliet and then moved to Fox Lake and I think that was called Fish Lake, if my memory is right. Good Luck, Book2

Windy City closed last fall. The Casino gets you close to I-55 which you can take downtown. If you want, try Indiana Yogi Bear campground which may be a shorter drive in. Either way, it's 45 minutes to an hour drive .
