We are contemplating attending a show in Chicago at the Botanical Gardens but can't seem to find any RV parks or anything within a 25 mile commute.

Does anyone know of a place where we can park for a few days...like Thursday through Monday morning.

Thanks,
Nedra

Empress Casino has an RV park. They are located 1.5 miles East of I55 on highway 6, this is just West of Joliet,IL. The RV Park is temporarily closed at present, but they do have parking available W/electric only.

Windy City CG is just off of Route 80 between Chicago and Joliet. Info says it is open all year.
I have never stayed there so I know nothing about it. Just what I've read.

I found a website for the Casino. We're not coming until September, 2009 so maybe the park will be open. I'll call them to get more info. I could not find the Windy City RV park listed anywhere. Do you have a phone number? How far is Joliet from downtown Chicago?

Nevermind, I just found out how far it is. This is not an option to commute twice a day for 4 days. Is there no place to park any closer?????

I really doubt you'll find a closer RV park,well-it depends on your destination in Chicago, there are RV parks North of Chicago. Land is just too valuable nearer Chicago. Kinda like Florida was two years ago, developers were paying so much park owners couldn't refuse.

Is it necessary that you drive your vehicle to the Botanical Gardens... Chicago has rail service from several directions ...

When we visited Boston several years ago we stayed near a train station and rode the train downtown ... no driving strain or parking fees ...

Just trying to help you think "outside the box"

We are going to be vendors at a show which means bringing a lot of inventory to sell. I can't be commuting by train every day. A 1/2 hr drive is one thing but an hour commute is quite another.

The show is at the Botanical Gardens which I'm assuming is somewhere near downtown. I need to be at the show on Friday to set up and Saturday and Sunday for the actual show.

Nedra, can't you just stay at the Parking Lot at the show? When I was showing at the Chicago Hardware Show (years ago!!!!!!) other people stayed in their Motorhome right on the Parking Lot..... just a thought!

Here is a map of RV parks I have found near Chicago.

It shows Windy City Beach & Camping, with phone number.

I was told that the Botanical Gardens will not allow anyone to park an RV there but I'm going to call anyway. The Windy City Campgroup is permanently closed according to a review I read dated January, 2008. I'll check one of the others that's nearby. It sounds like traffic will be bad on Friday but can anyone tell me if traffic is very bad on weekends in in that area?
