Thanks for all the information, it's helped with planning our trip. We have reservations for Mt. Rushmore and are looking for one at Yellowstone NP. Looking forward to this trip and many more to celebrate my retirement. Thanks again everyone.

reservations for sure...why take chances on getting there and having to park at a second rate park, or worse, a truck stop 60 miles away. These two parks are to be seen and enjoyed at a leisurely pace and being outdoors.

If going to Mt Rushmore in July I would call for reservation especially the end of July, I think that is the time period for The Harley gathering at Sturgis and that consumes a lot of the local campsites.
