Need help on where to stay near Arlington,VA

My wife and I will be taking a trip to Arlington,VA during the second week of October. Can someone suggest a good campground for us so we can visit do the "Tourist Thing" in Washington? We are in a 35' Motorhome.
Also, any suggestions on what tours may be worthwhile to take.

I just love this being retired stuff, now to get down to some serious Touristing!

There is a county campground near Manassas, Bull's Run Regional Park, or there is Cherry Hill in College Park, Md. - Cherry Hill has buses that run into the tourist attractions & has all the amenities of a commercial campground. A Md. state park is Greenbelt State Park has no hook ups but access to Metro Bus to the attractions. Any will be a good experience of the area. Crime is a very real expection anywhere near the DC beltway area so don't let you're guard down.

We grew up in that area, we now live in Front Royal, Va. If you have time, come visit us & experience Skyline Drive. Hard to predict peak leaf season but we find it very beautiful here anytime.

Cherry Hill would be my guess, easy in and out and busses if you didn't want to find parking. But, I was stationed there in the 60's and here's my tip. Park at Arlington Cemetary (take their tour) and then you can get a day pass to the tram car that has stops all over town.

Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA, might be more convenient to Arlington. But, it does not have sewer hookups (has dump station). Could catch bus to metro rail, according to the web site.

Pohick Bay Regional Park does have full hookups. It is about ten miles south off I-95.

If you will be visiting people in Arlington, Cherry Hill (College Park, MD) might be a long commute. But it is probably the best spot for playing tourist with bus service to metro rail stations. We spent a week there doing the tourist thing one summer. I'd probably do it again.
