I need ideas for a one week (2nd week of August) camping trip withing 500 miles of Raleigh, NC. It is just two adults (30yrs old). We have already done:
1)Washington, DC
2)Lancaster, PA
4)Gettysburg, PA
5)Hagerstown, WV
6)Williamsburg, VA
7)Rehobeth, DE
8)Smoky Mountains
9)Myrtle Beach, SC
10)Outer Banks, NC
11)Disney World
12)Gatlinburg, TN
13)Ashville, NC
14)Maggie Valley, NC

Any great NC,KY or WV parks with canoeing, creekfront sites, cool temperatures, etc? We were thinking Hunting Island, SC but it looks full on the coast and we just did Smoky Mountains this year. Any ideas?

Last Fall we drove the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. My wife loved it. Late this Fall we're doing the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We also spent a day at The Flying Circus Airshow in central VA. Lots of biplanes, dog fights, etc. My wife went for a ride before the show. I parked here overnight a couple years ago on our way to FL. No charge for overnighting.

Goose Point COE - outside Bassett Va. Access to Blue Ridge Parkway about 15-18 miles away. Remote area - but the CG is fabulous. Site 18 or 17 -- would be our choice. Checkout this link Goose Point CG Interactive Map for pic of every site. Just click on the site #s to see a pic. Make reservations thru Recreation Gov.

If you like SC - have you ever tried Willow Tree RV Resort. It is about 14 miles West of North Myrtle Beach. Big spacious sites -- we love it here. Still close enough to run into Myrtle Beach for a day trip if you like.

NC Mountain area -- we like Mountain Stream RV Park in Marion, NC. Access to Blue Ridge Parkway - 5 miles away. 2/3rds of the campground have sites directly on a fabulous stream.

we've done Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. We liked both and want to go back.

My suggestions would be Lake Lanier near Atlanta, GA or Charleston, SC. Both beautiful places with a lot to do outside the campgrounds. Hope you have a great time where ever you end up.

Looks like we have decided to go with Hunting Island State Park.
