Need Input on Vega$ Campgrounds

Hello All...

I am heading out on my maiden voyage in my new to me 2002 HR Navigator in Mid-March!

There is a convention out there that I must attend so need the skinny on the best campgrounds. Here is what I am looking for:

1. I will be pulling my CRV but within, say, 10 miles of the strip (need to be at the Mirage each day).

2. Do not need a pull through but length of coach is 41' plus the toad.

3. Good places to go on long walks with the pooch, Miss Pickles either right next to or close to the campground.

4. Will be sneaking in very long bicycle training rides (50-100 miles) early in the AMs so any knowledge of good riding roads would be helpful...the more hills the better but it is Vegas!! I plan on driving to the start of each ride to avoid traffic.

Thanks!!

My favorite, and we go often, is the Oasis RV Resort on Las Vegas Blvd. Clean, secure, close, nice pool and work out room, many dog runs with a very large, maybe 1/2 acre run up front. Easy drive to the Mirage on freeway or back surface streets.
Happy Trails.

Since you are going to be cycling, Oasis is good, you can head north towards Pahrump, wide shoulders, just be careful crossing over the 15 when you head north. If you don't want to hassle with crossing the 15 to head north, you may want to pay a few extra $$$ and stay at the Las Vegas Motor Coach Resort, have stayed there and IMHO allows easier access for cyclists. They do not have a fenced dog run, but have dog stations throughout the Resort.

When we were there, we stayed at Sam's Town in the heart of everything. Nice campground, clean, large site, clubhouse, and the casino right there. They run shuttles every where you want to go at no charge.

X-2 on Sam's Town, and have one of the best Mexican Restaurants, and are closer to the Mirage! And half the cost of the other two mentioned!
Rail!

Unhappy KOA has taken over Sam's Town

Be advised that Sam's Town, which was one of our favorites, is now a KOA. Don't know why the Casino gave up operating what was an excellent RV park but were very disappointed to see KOA take over. Have not been back and have no plans to ever do so.

We are staying at the LVM now. We stay here twice a year and prefer it due to the access ability of the riding, and it is a great resort. Blue Diamond has a bike lane heading west. It is a slight incline on the way out that grows to a steady 6% to the top of the pass, 19 miles out. You can also take a right towards Red Rock for added distance. There is little traffic once you get out of town and a very wide shoulder the whole way. I have not been over the pass yet so i don't know how long the shoulder goes on for. Once back at the resort, find one of the six hot tubs. Also a great work out room.

Sam's Town went KOA because the Circus Circus closed that KOA. No more camping at the CC.

I am currently parked at Oasis, which is convenient for accessing locations on the strip.

Though it is little more than an asphalt parking lot with hookups, the RV park at Circus Circus is still in operation, just not with the KOA group any longer. It's pricing is way out of line though as a 7-night stay there cost a few dollars more than the 7-night special (Premium site) at Oasis.

The Oasis is actually on Blue Diamond, not on Las Vegas Blvd. But close. We have stayed many times.

A weeks stay at Circus Circus will run you about $320.

Thanks all! Great information and I appreciate it.

I can drive to the riding areas as I try to avoid traffic whenever/wherever possible.

Is there that much of a difference between Oasis, LVM Resort and the other one called the Las Vegas RV Resort that is slightly east of town? Besides price, of course.

The LVM Resort is a little pricey for sure...but super nice.

Oasis looks great and all three get good reviews for the most part.

We enjoyed Las Vagas RV Resort and it is on the north east side of the city. It was a very reasonable $30/day.
