I am beginning to plan a two week trip from Napa, Ca through Oregon and Washington probably in Early Sept. So many of you have been at this a long time that I am hoping you can make recommendations to me. I'd like to know places I should not miss and perhaps RV parks that you really enjoyed.

It's so great to have so many experienced RVers to go to!

We love Gold Beach, Ore. There is a small campground on the ocean. It's called Irelands Rustic Lodges. If you go to their web site there is a link to the campground. Ireland's Rustic Lodges and Gold Beach Inn, in Gold Beach Oregon on America's Wild Rivers Coast The sites are level, back topped, full hook ups. You need to check out the 'light house', which is actually the water tank in disguise. It is a great place to have 'happy hour' or watch the sun set. While there take the Rogue River Jet boat. Well worth the time.
There are so many great places to visit on the oregon coast. If you are inland there is a very nice RV park at Seven Feathers Casino. I believe it is in the Roseburg area. If you join the players club you get a discount at the travel plaza.

Boy, that's a TALL order as there are so many great places to experience along your route. Just a thought....if you are also returning along the coast, stop at the various turnouts on your return trip, not on route going North since it's a little combersome entering and leaving the hwy. when heading North.....NOW;.....

Yup, Gold Beach is fun...and at least consider taking the 1/2 day or full day Jet Mailboat trip up the Rogue River....it's a HOOT!! Also, spend a little time in the Newport area...in fact, ya might want to use Newport as a sort of temporary base from which to explore that part of the coast....and DON'T miss spending a little time in Depot Bay (ie., run up to Depot Bay from base at Newport as part of a day trip). OH!...try lunch at the Sea Hag Restaurant...pretty darn good sea food!!

Another beautiful spot is just West of Tillamook. Stay around Tillamook, and use tow to tour coast. Drive into Oceanside, and DON'T miss Oceanside State Rec. Area just above Oceanside.

From Tillamook going North to Astoria is pretty much cluttered touristy area and ya might just want to go ahead and cross over the Columbia River into Washington w/o stopping.....up to you!!

Once in Washington kinda make your way North along 101 polking into places you're curious about (ie., Ocean Park, Westport, etc.) but where ever, head up to Quinault area. We've camped at Kalaloch just above Queets on the coast and there are some parks (RV parks) in Quinault, but whatever, DO visit and perhaps day trip around the lake, and really consider having lunch or dinner at the Lodge (South side of lake). Walk the grounds, learn the history re: Roosevelt/Churchill mtgs. etc. and enjoy the magnificent solitude and beauty.

Now there are alot of places to visit on the Olympic Peninsula so you'll have to decide, but, consider the Hoh Visitor Cntr. area, Port Angeles and Hurricane Ridge and DO polk around Port Townsend......awwwww....there just so many places. Perhaps others will adise. HAVE FUN. Steve & Lynette

Just a few of the great stops we've made:

Grand Collie Dam, WA, Mt St. Helen, WA, Evergreen Air & Space, OR All the wineries, OR & WA. Columbia Gourge, OR & WA, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Crater Lake, OR

Both states have great State Park campgounds.

I just touched on what we have done in our travels from the East.

Wow! Thank you so much for the info so far. Am I taking on too much to go all the way to Victoria for a few days? Also, I'd like to go to Crater Lake. Do I contimue inland up to Rainier and then come back along the coast?

Threads get moved to the appropriate sections so that more members can see your question. Moderators move them for you. You had posted in the Motorhome section so it got moved to the camping section.

You could do Victoria... but I think you would enjoy doing Oregon a lot if you just stay there. Their parks are very lovely.

Taking the rig to Vancouver Island will set you back about $250 US. Leaving it at Port Angeles or Anacortes, walking on and enjoying downtown Victoria for a day or two without a vehicle but getting a nice B&B might be a good choice.

One of our favorite destinations is Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast, and Cannon Beach RV Resort http://www.cbrvresort.com

They can accommodate rigs of any size, sites are paved, both back in and pull through, swimming pool and jacuzzi, general store and laundry facilities. Exceptionally nice. Our favorite site is #25 in the far corner of the park, but you can't go wrong with many of the others.

Another destination that we make regularly is Greyland State Park on the Washington coast, just south of Westport. No swimming pool or jacuzzi here, just an expanse of ocean beach and great sunsets. There is an older section with more trees, and a newer section closer to the beach that is more open and exposed. The older section has full hookups with 30amp service. The new section has water and electric only, no sewer. I believe the new section has 50amp service available. We prefer the older section and always try for site #35 as our first choice. All sites are paved.

If you make it to Eastern Washington and Grand Coulee, our favorite destination that is on our list every year is Steamboat Rock State Park on Banks Lake just south of Coulee Dam. This is IMHO one of the nicest parks in the Washington State Parks system, and it is one of the most popular. We plan several days to a week there every year and are looking forward to our trip this year in September. Take in the light show on the face of Coulee Dam. Quite unique.

Monaco 38, thank you so much for your help. I'm still learning how this site works. Obviously I've found my thread with your help. Also, thanks for the info on the cost of going to Victoria. I think we'll take your suggestions and just head down the coasts of both Washington and Oregon. Can anyone tell me how RV friendly the State Parks are in both states?

You're going to love it... especially this time of year. Our favorite spot on our PNW loop was Cape Blanco State Park in Oregon. All of their state parks are incredible but Cape Blanco we really found special. Our 40' DP tucked nicely into a site nearly hidden by the trees. The cliffs overlooking the ocean were only about 200 yards away and we could sit up there and watch whales breach. It's a very nice spot.

Don't forget renting some dune buggies and tearing it up at Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area! We stayed at the casino campground in Coos Bay.

Mt. St. Helens is spectacular and the Boeing Assembly Plant in Everett, WA will blow your mind. The size of the building makes the 787 inside look tiny.

Once again I want to thank all of you for your input. I'm beginning to feel like I should skip Washington and just concentrate on Oregon this trip! Keep the suggestions coming!
