My wife, Vickie has to go to a class in Melbourne FL on the week of 2/5/05. They will fly her down, but we have decided to take the 5RV and stay at a local CG. I can take her in and pick her up, and we will have a week in the warm. I see after a websearch that Melbourne has 3 CG's. It looks as if Manatee Hammockis the biggest. Can anyone give us some CG suggestions? All help will be appreciated,

If you are looking for a great rv park try Outdoor resorts .... it has its' own beach front and pools (3 total) plus fishing pier, etc. somewhat pricy but nice park

Outdoor resorts are full, I can have a site if I don't have a slide. Called 5 places and could have 1 site for 2 days and then move to another for 1 day then go to overflow w/electric only.
Finally got a site at Manatee Hammocks for the week, only place I could find

I have stayed at Manatee Hammocks and had no problems. I would stay there again. CGs are hard to book in FL until it gets warm up north and the snowbirds leave. :-) Just watch closely for the turn into the park. The sign can be missed.
While the wife is busy, go to the vistor's center at the cape. Although it is no longer free, it is not too expensive. Buy the ticket for the bus to the Apollo center and the IMAX. You can easily burn a day there. The mouse trap (Disney) is now about $60 a day/person, so you may want to avoid it. Also, Cypress Gardens just reopend and now has roller coasters and such. I have not been there, but the radio ads indicate an 're-opening special' where you get two days for the price of one and I think the price is a lot lower than the mouse trap. It was just reopened Christmas by the same company that owns Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA. This is good golfing weather if that is something you like.

Tony, sorry for the delay in responding, I've had a computer glitch, fixed now. I had though of spending a day at the cape. I like history and science, Vickie doesn't so it works well. Not going to see the mouse, but am going to take grandaughter in the near future, she will love it. Thanks for the heads up on the turn, I watch carefully. Later, Nat

Don't think you will be disappointed in Manatee Hammock -- have stayed there several times as we live just south of there. There is a small pier in the park on the Indian River that is great for fishing (or drowing shrimp) in addition there is lots to do in the area.
Take a day and go south to Sebatian's Inlet -- great area to not only fish but beautiful scenery where the Indian River meets the ocean!!
Also there are some great airboat rides on the St John's River.
In addition there is a Manatee Overlook up past Halover Canal north of the park where you can see manatees in their own habitat.
And if you are into gambling, there are two casino ships that go out of Port Canaveral = in my opinion the Sterling Lines is the better one.
And if you like good Polish food, don't miss the Bellwood just south of the park. The Italian Fisherman is a great family restaurant -- good food, good prices. Great Tiki Bar at Lagoonz just in front of the Frontenac Flea Market.
Just spend some time down at the pier at the campground and folks are always willing to tell you about the area.

Jan and Bill, thanks for the tips. I have never had polish food so will try it. I've never seen manatees either. going down to the pier and talking to others is the thing I like most about camping. I love to hear how things are different in other parts of this great country of ours, and most RV'ers are happy to oblige

Vickie and I just got back from Titusville, stayed at Manatee Hammock. Nice clean CG, well mantained, freindly staff. I think they put us on the best site in the whole place. We had nice neighbors, and the view across the waterway to Kennedy is great. The only drawback is it's the noisiest place we have ever stayed. Between the trains and the planes, and the traffic, I don't see how anyone can sleep. The train track is just across the road, something I didn't notice before hand, and the airport within 1/2 mile with planes landing and taking off from dawn to dusk, its by far the noisiest place I've ever been. I live out in the country and am used to quiet, whereas the neighbor was from Mass. and didn't even notice anything, it's a good think there are all kinds of folks in the world.
