Question Need suggestions for East Coast!

My husband and I would like to plan a week's vacation on the east coast during the summer or early fall of 2017. We've never been up to Maine. What is a good, comfortable time of year to camp there? What should be on our "to do list"? Campground suggestions?

Comfortable in Maine? Pretty much any time of the year, except mid-winter, I should think.

We just spent 10 days camping at Shore Hills outside Boothbay Harbor, and just loved it. Nice campground, and loads of lobster to eat everywhere you look. OTOH, you could try the Acadia/Bar Harbor area, or south coast closer to Kennebunk and Portland. It's all good.

Lots of places get crowded during the "season", which starts around the 3rd week of June, so we usually go to Maine in the 2 weeks before that.

Good luck!

Roger

It kind of depends where you are and how long you really have. You can hit a tourist mecca or two in a week. Stop at LL Bean in Freeport. Hit a whale watch many places. Get up around Eastport and see the tide, several settlement sites along the coast that date back to the early 1600's, do the boat museum, school and shipyard tour in Bath, Lighthouses many places. Food everywhere. Summer you get a lot of kids. End of August they go away and there is still some nice weather. Most places are still open because they get a lot of fall leaf peepers toward the end of September. All that is along the coast. There is the Northwoods experience inland. ;-)

Ditto on Shore Hills. I've been there 3 times and we've had a great time on each visit. I hope you like lobster.
Bar Harbor with it's proximity to Acadia Nat'l Park is another good stop. Good place to whale watch too.
If you're planning a fall visit, the mountains of NH and VT are spectacular if you will be there during the leaf change. You will need reservations as they book up solid during that time of year.

Good luck with the plans.
