A great place to stay a night or two. The River Ranch RV Resort is located off of I 35N in New Braunsfel, Tx. It is located right off the interstate, easy in and out. Clean, state of the art hook ups, free wi fi and cable, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Paved roads and all cement pad sites with full hookups. We will be back for a longer stay this summer.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sunshine. We're going to be in that area next month and I've been researching parks to stay at. We travel in a 41' MH w/ slides on each side and tow a car. Does this park have room for the big rigs to manuever around and sites large enough to accomodate us?

You might also want to check out Hill Country RV Resort in New Braunfels. The new section is big rig friendly.

We have been in the area for about 10 days. Stayed at Braunig Lake RV Resort for 5 days...can't recommend it. A couple of days ago we move to Fredericksburg KOA. Great area and very nice campground. New owners but in to Rv'ing. Lots to do and see and the weather has been great.

There are also a few CG around Canyon Lake in New Braundfels and sorrounding area. Also Army Corp has park on Canyon Lake.
Great area we stay at the Summit Resort [CtC]for a few weeks each winter.

Tom,
Sorry you had a bad stay at Braunig. Especially since I recommended it. When we stayed there we had a great time. I did say the pull throughs were close, but at the time they did stagger rigs so unless they got real crowded it was okay. They just recently had a host change and that could have been a bad thing, as the hosts whe had were great. Again, Sorry.

We are presently at Admiralty RV Resort, and for no other reason than we wanted to try something different. We were offered site# 2 at Braunig and it looks out to the lake, but decided to diversify a little.

There are several CG's in and around New Braunfels. If you are connected with the military or DOD, check out the two military CG's off of 306 around Canyon Lake. Also, Rio Raft is a PA CG. Not many amenities, but a good jumping off spot for touring around, and the price is right with PA.

We've spent part of the last three winters in the New Braunfels area, and now plan our stays at the Huaco Springs Campground. It's just outside of the 337 loop on River Road and, while it's a bustling "toob" place in the summer, it's very quiet during the winter. The sites are three spaces wide with hookups on each side, for a MH you can pull in nose-first and have an unobstructed view of the Guadalupe River. Each site has a long concrete pad, picnic table, and BBQ. The state stocks the river with trout during the winter and if you like six-inch trout you'll love the fish. The best part is the rate, $295/mo includes 50A power. Nice and quiet yet close to town.

We just took a ride up River Rd today on a sight seeing trip. We noticed a sign at Huaco, and other areas CG's on the Road that specified "NO DOGS ALLOWED" so call ahead and ask if you have pets to make sure you can have them with you.

Huaco is a very nice site.

At the other end of the road is Rio Raft. Then if you continue on you will come to Canyon Lake Dam - no camping, but just a little ways past that is a CG, and then there is JellyStone on 306 with several other CG's in the area, including the two military CG's

Wayne's right. Although the river agency rules state no dogs, glass, or styrofoam, the RV portion of the park allows dogs "under 15 pounds"; however they're pretty lenient. Our neighbor had their "goldendoodle" with them for a month, and she was well over 50 lbs.

Wayne, thanks for the comments. No problem. Braunig was pretty full so no spaces empty between sites. Got slides out bet couldn't extend awning. Lots of snow birds and long term workers in the campground who started driving out at 5:30am. The site they offerred you would have pretty good if I recall correctly. We did enjoy the area and took you up on the tour of riverwalk and all the missions. On the way back home today and to readjust to the "cooler" weather. Tom

CheetahGirl, we were there in January with a 40' MH with 4 slides and were towing, and had absolutely no problem getting around in the campground. We didn't even have to unhook the car until it was time to back into our site. They do have some pull-throughs, though. The only down-side was the directions to the campground that were in one of the books. There is an easier way if heading South, but I can't explain it, I could only drive it, as we figured it out when we were leaving. Also, I would make amy reservation by phone rather than through their website as the website put you in the higher priced sites which are backed up to the river, unless that is what you want. We only wanted an overnight and would have preferred a pull-through, which would have been cheaper.

Having said all of that, we plan to go back and spend a few days, using that as a base for exploring San Antonio. It's a great park.
