New Mexico Campgrounds - On the water?

Hi All,
Taking a quick trip over to Carsbad Caverns next week and want to camp our way back to San Diego. Would love to find some campgrounds on a lake or river with fishing and are hoping for some suggestions.

We aren't pulling a toad this time so we'll need 'foot access'; my wife just wants to 'relax' (we've been working on our house for our daughter's Aug. 1 wedding in the backyard and need a break!)

My fifteen year-old son and I would like to wet a line and also relax a bit. (As much as a fifteen year-old can relax...)

We'll probably work our way back on I40 and will be looking for the same in AZ; I've wanted to check out the White Mountains/Show Low area, so if anyone has a recommendation around there, I'd be grateful!

Thanks much!

EDIT: We're in 36' motorhome...

Word of warning. If you decide to run US380 West to I-25... Fill up BEFORE leaving Roswell. Gas Stations are few and far between. We learned this the hard way as we didn't fill up in Tatum between Hobbs & Roswell (on East side). Made sure we filled up EVERYTHING before leaving Roswell heading towards San Antonio/I-25... Good thing.

If you want a water site in NM wait until the big one in CA and then most of the sites will be on the water
