New Orleans

Good mornung,

We want to spend 4-5 days in New Orleans, about 8/19 - 8/24 2013. Do you have suggestions for beautiful and safe CG?

Thanks a lot.
Walter

We stayed at Bayou Signette state park. You can then take the ferry into New Orleans or it is about 30 minutes by car. They are only water and electric with a dump station but a really nice park. Will return there if we go back.

Enjoy! If this is your first trip to New Orleans, you will be a bit over whelmed. Love the history, the food, the ambiance. It is a world class city. Yes, it has its problems, but it is all in how you see it. Again, enjoy your stay.

Be prepared for the heat and keep hydrated (with water). We have been in "heat advisories" all week.

There are some very nice LA state parks near New Orleans.
We stayed at Fountainbleu SP, Fairview SP, (both 40 miles north, across Lake Pontchartrain), and Bayou Segnette SP, (14 miles south, across the Mississippi), many times back when rates where more reasonable and LA State Parks honored the 50% discount with the National park Service Senior Pass.
Now we only pass through the state of Louisiana, (if/when it gets in our way), without spending a dime. :-)

Looks like you may be hitting it lucky. The heat indexes for the past week has been 102 to 106.

Take a ride on the paddle wheel boat on the Mississippi. Take a streetcar ride thru the Garden District. There are many great places to eat and have a libation. We took a swamp tour that we really enjoyed also. Be sure and enjoy coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde.

The Honey Island Swamp Tour is great.
As are the beignets.
NOTE:
Do not wear clean black clothing while eating beignets!
LOL
