The higher rates at FQRV are during "event" periods, such as
the Jazz Festival, Mardi Gras, and others. Considering you
do not have to drive in to town, pay to park, and drive home,
it can be a bargain way to see and enjoy the city. And with the
enormous PowerBall billboard above the park, you will always
know how much the drawing is worth !

The Pontchatrain Landing RV park is a great place to stay, it's right on the lake & you can get a site looking out over the lake. There is a shuttle or just drive your toad to the quarter.

We stayed at a very nice KOA in Slidell. Course that was prior to Katrina.

Just to maintain accuracy here, Pontchartrain Landing is not on Lake Pontchartrain, it is on the industrial canal leading off of the lake. You cannot see the lake from the campground but it is not a long drive or bicycle ride up to Lakeshore Dr.

We have stayed there several times only because of it's convenience, not because of the very rough road leading in, old rundown factories for scenery, dusty interior roads and loud noises emanating from plants across the canal.

I get a kick out every time I see someone post about this campground being on the lake because back in my college days I spent a long hot summer working for a company doing dredging and piling work on that canal, I never saw the lake the entire summer.

Ha-ha. Looking at their website, you would think it was on the lake, but it is not. Not as good in person as it is portrayed on the website.

We stayed at Ponchartrain Landing in 2012 and really enjoyed it. It's quite new and is on a channel off Lake Ponchartrain. There's Shuttle Service to the Quarter and other locations. When we stayed there they accepted Passport America, so our stay was all at 50% discount.
Safe and they have a nice raised Deck Bar and Grill.

There is a newly opened military campground near New Orleans.
