Newport R.I.

An anyone tell me what it's like to take the RV into the mansion area in Newport? We have bikes but no toad. Will rent a car if needed but seems like maybe we can park the 33 foot class A easy enough?

Bob - you will probably do better staying off the island. We don't have an abundance of good campgrounds on the Island. Check the following.

Town of Portsmouth RI:

Look at Newport County (would include island towns of Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth) & South County (South County campgrounds are 15- 40 minutes away and over a bridge with a $6 toll one way for an RV.

Visit Rhode Island :: Where to Stay :: Campgrounds

When you say bikes, do you mean motorcycles, because you will need a rental car if you are using bicycles. Taking your A class into Newport to see the mansons can be a challenge. Especially parking. It's a tourist town but they don't get it, some tourists come in an RV.

Check http://www.campgroundreviews.com - helpful to get a picture of the campgounds.

Bob,

Where you are looking to go are only 2 lane roads with alot of tight turns and the center of Newport by the water is Thames street and it is one way cobble stone street with heavy foot traffic. A lot of the mansions are a road called Ten Mile Drive and Bellevue Avenue there is a group of stores just as you get onto Bellevue on both sides of the road where you maybe able to park your rv there and then bike the rest. It is a beautiful bike ride. Sorry to be so long winded by I grew up there and spent many of days riding all around there.

Good Luck it is a Beautiful Place

Thanks for the info. My wife called the visitors center and was told we could park there and bike the town easily. We'll be doing this the week after labor day. Does her advice seem correct. THANKS. (33 foot class A).
