NH to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone

We are planning a trip to Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone leaving from NH the third week of August. We plan to drive to Mt. Rushmore first than on to Yellowstone. Any suggestions for routes and campgrounds along the way greatly appreciated. We don't mind boondocking along the way but would Iile to stay in campgrounds outside the parks. We will be in a 30ft Sunstar and plan on renting a car to travel to and from the parks. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Yellowstone will be VERY crowded. Take the commercial bus tours to save aggravation. They have a day long lower loop and another upper loop. Remember its a LONG ride to get to anywhere in Yellowstone especially if you're staying outside the park as the delays often happen at the entrance stations.

My son is a NPS law enforcement ranger in Yellowstone. His advice is to get 1/2 mile off the road and you will be away from the crowds.

We’ve stayed in Sundance Wy at Mountain View Campground, very quiet and nice. Also at Yellowstone valley inn outside Cody, not fancy but a had a good time with the locals. Would stay there again.
