Thinking of doing NY region in mid to end of October. Too cold? Where would I want to go and stay. Suggestions please.

We did Lake Placid last October and it got down to about 20 degrees. In early November, we went to Ithaca and it was in the 30's. During the day, temperatures were very pleasant (50-70).

Robert Treman State Park in Ithaca has a campground. Cooperstown is a great stop too.

I had to bypass Niagra Falls last Spring, but I had heard and was planing to stay on the Canadian Side of the Falls.

Where were you thinking of staying in Canada? Any where in NY recommended?

I don't recall off the top of my head and I dumped all my files when we cut our trip short and bypassed New York and other states north east of there.

But as I recall I just started out by using Google Maps, Niagra Falls for a location and then zoomed in and scrolled across into canada and then researched the RV Parks/Resorts that were shown. You might have to use the Sattlite View once you get zoomed into the area.

I also have some friends in the Buffalo area that told me it was better to stay on the Canadian Side rather then New York.

Most parks close in Oct... As to Niagara, we stayed at Four Mile Creek State Park (NY) Which is 15 minutes away and all 4 lane (no traffic). Price was EXTREMELY reasonable. It's on the bank of Lake Ontario with large lots. Ft. Niagara is on the way in and we found it more enjoyable than the falls. Don't miss it!
They close 10/21 this year.

We are currently doing just that. Did the Falls last week and the Finger Lakes this week. The weather is in the 70's but cooling quickly. A lot of the campgrounds will close by mid-October so you may be leaving it too late. Call around to check before you set off.

I was at Niagara Falls last week and stayed at Four Mile Creek state campground. I had a spot overlooking Lake Ontario which was just perfect. As stated, watch your dates as to closing time. If you go to Watkins Geln, the state park was just OK and if you have a large rig, it can be very tight. Finger Lakes was a great time and be sure to hike the gorge. Went from there to Cooperstown and stayed at a private campground Hartwick? that was fine also.

What do you do to prevent your pipes from freezing?

Another park is Letchworth State Park about 60 miles south of Rochester, N.Y. It's about an hour and half drive from the Niagara Falls region, and is a very nice park.

Horizonchase - we have heated basement storage so the furnace keeps that area above freezing. We just unhooked the water hose from the spigot each night.

My furnace doesn't heat all my basements especially wet one , so II do utilize 75 watt bulbs in all compartments with plumbing when in below 28 degree temps for any length of time. Besides , I generally use electric heat sources to heat the inside and don't use the furnace.
