Nice RV Park Near Legoland?

Hey everyone!

I am looking to taking the family to Legoland next week and am looking for a decent RV park within 30 minutes or so of it.

Anyone have any where they recommend? I have found a few... Paradise By The Sea and San Diego RV Resort but both have mixed reviews.

Thanks!

The best family type RV park in the area is the San Ciego Metro KOA, which is really in Chula Vista. Probably a 45 min drive to LEGOLAND. It is a park setting, playgrounds, pool, café, store, activities, etc. They are one of the top rated KOA's in the country. We have stayed there many times.

There's a closer one right on the bluff overlooking the Pacific - maybe 10 minutes from LegoLand. While I don't remember the name, it is a state park in Carlsbad.

Santee Lakes is also a nice park. I live in the area, so don't generally look for CG's. The one that you mention on the bay with bad reviews, is quite expensive. It wouldn't be my first choice.

I have stayed at two casino RV lots, Pala Casino, and Pechanga Casino. These two are located up I-15, in the far northern part of San Diego. Probably 45 minutes from Legoland.

Carlsbad State Beach is one that another poster mentioned. It is by far the closest CG. It is sometimes hard to get a spot there. Maybe you will get lucky.

Hope you enjoy San Diego! Lots to see and do.

Thanks! I did check the KOA (we typically like staying in them) but there was no availability. :(

Yea, the Oceanside one is one of the others we are looking into. It is a bit pricey but I guess it's all relative, right? lol We are kinda setting this up last minute so I assumed it would be either hard to find a place and probably have to pay a little more. We won't be spending much time at the RV anyway because we have full days planned at Legoland, aquarium, beach and so forth.

OP,

If you are/were military there is a fam camp on the beach inside a Camp Pendleton.

Here is a hyperlink to the Santee Lakes Campground. It isn't on the ocean, but it is centrally located.

Best of luck

Guajome Regional Park is about 15 miles northeast. Water and electric only with dump station. A very nice San Diego County Park that's big rig friendly.

Safe travels.

My recommendation would depend somewhat on your rig. If you are in a motorhome without a dinghy, I'd suggest Paradise by the Sea in Oceanside, simply because of how bad the traffic can get. (About 15 years ago we stayed overnight in a 32' A without our dinghy to take our granddaughter there. Did just fine.) A dinghy, or tow vehicle if using a towable, opens up a lot of possibilities, especially for a multi-day stay. Then my recommendation would be Chula Vista RV Resort. Or, a much cheaper alternative (at least last time I checked) was a park in Vista. Sites are really sloped, but when I last checked, they provided stuff to level.) The state parks along the coast are usually fully reserved, but. . . Finally, you're going to hit a boatload of traffic if arriving during commuter hours. If possible, get in before 4 at the latest. Another possibility, but I would only chance this mid-week, is Oceanside harbor. Simply a parking lot. Don't think there's hook-ups, but I think there's a dump. Which reminds me of Silver Strand State Beach, just south of Coronado. Parking lot with water & power. Dump station. Mid-week it always had vacancies when I used to bike in the area. To continue to ramble on, if you have the time, spend the night at Pechange RV Resort in Temecula. (Should still be Passport America midweek.) Easy drive to Legoland (& all of SD) if you wait until about 9-9:30 to leave.

We've been to Legoland many times in the past year and a half. We had annual passes up until the past year. The absolute closest is South Carlsbad State Beach, this time of year you might have a decent chance of getting a site. There are a handful of new sites that have full hookups, but they $75+ a night.

Most of the other campgrounds mentioned, are going to be at least an hour away, possibly longer depending traffic.

The Oceanside campgrounds are doable but your packed in like sardines. Guajome is a nice county park, 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

One that hasn't been mentioned is Olive Avenue RV park in Vista. It is about 20 minutes via freeway, has full hookups and decent space between sites. If traffic is bad on I5 or highway 76 there is a really great back road, via Cannon Rd. and College Blvd. One downside is that the sites aren't very level front to back. In fact, the longer diesel pushers had to use the park provided 2x10 ramps and had to place steps under the MH's steps to get in and out. Its a new park but they didn't plan the slope of the sites very well. I would stay there again, if there werent any sites at S. Carlsbad SB.

Enjoy your visit!

You could try Escondido RV Resort. Although inland, it would not be terribly far.
