Nice RV Parks

Hello,

Newbie here...

This may or may not be the place (either forum or site) for this sort of post but, please refer if needed or I'd sure appreciate a jump start...

I have plans to go to Monterey in August... I have been searching for sites but most "seem" seedy" if I use Google earth.

Is there a good guide or does anyone know of a good site? Are most sites by the side of a highway? Was looking for something somewhat secluded but that seems tough to locate. Any comments, suggestions or redirects appreciated.

Saw Monterey Fairgrounds but, by Google earth it looks like it is at the end of a runway of an airport... Is it?

Yes, the fairgrounds are by the airport. Your choices for RV parks in Monterey are slim. We stayed at Marina Dunes a couple of years ago. The park was reasonably well maintained, the management was pleasant, but it is next to the Freeway. We were on the side away from the road, and we weren't bothered by road noise. Marina Dunes was within walking distance of a beach, but you have to hike across the dunes to get there. It is not convenient to anything else, though, so you would need a toad or a rental car to visit any of the local attractions. It is located in Marina, next to Monterey.

The Cypress Red Roof Inn in Monterey advertises itself as having an RV Park. It has hookups along the back row of the parking lot, and is definitely sketchy

If you don't need to be in Monterey proper, you might check out some of the surrounding areas.

Good Luck!

Thanks all... this is a "Maiden Voyage" as an RVr and owner... Planning to be near Monterery and Laguna Seca for the auto auctions and Historic Races week of Aug 10...
Honestly, hoping there are nicer sites than can be found around Monterey as we continue our outings... Was thinking Route 66 beginning to end and not sure there's much there on the west end.

There are nice state parks along the coast in Capitola/Santa Cruz area (Seacliff & New Brighton). Unfortunately, at this late date they are probably all booked. You can try Henry Cowell State Park. None are exactly around the corner, but a nice drive up and down the coast (assuming you don't travel at rush hour). I assume you checked Laguna Seca and there are no sites available there?

Have fun at the Historic's, its a real blast.

Thanks for the suggestions... I certainly intend to enjoy... I have a 1960 356 Cab Historic Racer... Tubby, a 356. Bucket list is to hit as many sanctioned vintage races as I can... RVn with a journey and a destination.
