Cool Norfolk VA

Looking for a campground to stay at in May. It would be our first trip in our new Columbus. they tell me it will be here in 3 weeks.

I haven't been here but have read that it was one of the best campgrounds in VA, and is near Norfolk:

Virginia Campground Bethpage Camp-Resort & Water Park near the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay

We just left that area but stayed in a military campground. Holiday Travel Park is the best of the non-military and non membership parks. They have some really nice super sites and have their own parking lot at the oceanfront. There is a KOA in the same vicinity but it is not nearly as nice in my opinion. Then there is First Landing State Park which is not a favorite of ours but many love it. No sewer hooks ups there though. Just keep in mind that the military jets can be very noisy and both Holiday Travel Park and the KOA are in the flight pattern for NAS Oceana. The jets normally start flying around 0800 and are usually finished by midnight. Some call it the sound of freedom but it is extremely loud.
