It is a bit out of town, but we always stay at Spring Hill Mobile Home Park. Have stayed there twice and love it.

Campgrounds near Durham

Mebane NC - Jones Station RV park - Brand New campground - very nice.
There are approx. 100 sites at the NC fairgrounds with full hook ups available except when the fair is going on in mid Oct. - about 20 mi. from Durham on Hillsboro street just west of I440.

There are several CG's around Jordan Lake. Not far from Durham. Stay away from Birchwood RV park in Durham tho.

We stayed at Poplar Point on Lake Jordan this summer. It was very pretty and I reserved early to get a nice waterfront site. Watch out for the low bridge on Hwy 55 in Durham. Luckily my husband saw the sign for the height and we were able to turn around in a hurry. There is a video of RVs going under it and losing their air conditioners! Funny in a video but not if it happened to you!

What's wrong with Birchwood? I've never stayed there, have you? I went and looked at it as a possible two week stay a few years ago. Not high end, for sure, and some of the permanents are a bit ragged. But the area where they park the Duke Hospital clients and other short terms seemed reasonable- not luxurious.

Of course, things may have changed. What was the condition when you stayed there?

No John, we did not stay there. We drove around last year to check out a spot for 2 weeks while I had surgery at Duke. Neither my husband or I felt it would be safe or desireable, then we went to check out Spring Hill. That is a beautiful, peaceful campground and still not a big distance from Duke. I don't mean to sound snobby, but I like a campground that is well kept and not a run down trailor park.

Campgrounds near Durham

1. North Carolina Fairgounds at Raleigh near I440 & Hillsborough st. Full hook ups. See security or ask another camper how you pay. October is fair time and not likely to get a site that month.
2. 70-East Mobile Acres & RV Park. Good place and not far from Raleigh.
3. The following is from a friend that is full timing.
You are probably talking about Dickens RV Park on Corinth Rd. in Moncure.
That's where we stayed the last few times we were in town working on the
house.
They are a Passport America campground so expect PA rates.
They also have long term rates. We used the monthly rate but I think
they also have a weekly rate.
If you go out 64 to the new hill exit (old US 1 exit) I think you are 3
miles from the campground.
We went across Hwy 42 from FV and it was about 30 miles.

Just checked in at Jones Station RV Resort. Nice country setting away from noise and interstate but convenient to local places. Owners very friendly and helpful.

I second the Jones Station remarks. The park is in Mebane, probably 10 minutes south of I-85. Depending on where in Durham you're headed, it's about an easy 20-30 minute drive.
