North Dakota State Parks
You guys who live in N.D. have some beautiful state parks, BUT how about putting up some signs in the parks to direct visitors to the camp sites.
I visited Sully Creek S.P. in western N.D. and Ft. Ransom S.P in eastern N.D. earlier this month and neither had signs directing visitors to the sites. We have a 40 footer towing and I had to get out and walk a considerable distance to find where to go. There were no signs in either park. With this big a rig you don't want to make a U turn which in most parks it's not possible.
At Sully Creek we finally found a park ranger who helped and checked us in but the office was hidden behind trees and was not visible at the park entrance. There was no sign indicating the location of the park office. The park ranger checked us in via their computer and we saved the reservation fee. Total cost with fire wood was about $21. A great deal.
Ft. Ransom has a check in office but the ranger said she was leaving (we were their about closing) and she would not check us in. So she directed us to a phone that connected us to a reservation desk that charged us $11 for a res fee and $5 for a car use fee. Total cost was almost $40. We went out of our way to get to this park because we prefer state parks.
As we were leaving the next day I went back to the office and talked to the same ranger that left the day earlier and told her that signs directing visitors to the campsites would be most helpful. Her reply was that they have had those complaints before but her boss doesn't like signs. I also told her that $40 for a single night stay was a bit steep. We would have saved the $11 res fee if she had checked us in the night before. My fault for arriving at closing time.
Anyway, N.D. has some beautiful state parks and I will stay again, but how about some signs!
