North of NOLA

i'm doing some planning and thinking about a trip next summer and I want to spend a couple of days visiting NOLA.

We don't want to stay in the city would rather stay about an hour or so outside of town and I'm thinking about area by Slidell as a base would appreciate experienced travelers in this area feedback.

Will be coming from the north by Memphis and our next intended destination after this stop will be Gulf Shores Alabama.

There are two Louisiana state parks in that area. I like Fairview-Riverside, but a lot of people like Fontainebleau.

There are also at least 2 nice campgrounds in Mississippi that are an hour or a little more from NOLA. Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis has a very nice campground. If you are a Coast To Coast member, TLC Wolf River Resort in Pass Christian (off I-10 exit 24) is one of our favorites.

If you're up for the causeway across Lake Ponchartrain either Fontainbleu or Fairview-Riverside SPs would be great.

Road is good. We did that last year.
It is just a long drive across. One of the 10 longest bridges ~24 miles I think.

We stay at Pine Crest RV Park in Slidell when visiting the kids there. It is not fancy, but clean and well-kept, and the folks are really nice! If you go there tell Chuck and Donna we said hello!

We are currently 1 hr from NOLA at a really nice place called Lakeside RV park. I have to travel often and use the New Orleans airport so my drive from here to NO it is just under 1hour. Baton Rouge is 20 minutes from us and is a very nice area with tons to do. Great food in Baton Rouge along with great entertainment in the area.

We used to visit here from NJ and our half way stop was in TN so I wanted to offer this location as one other option. Also, we just returned here from a trip over to Orange Beach, Al which is just a tad over 3 hr drive from Lakeside RV park. Lakeside is quiet, really popular place well priced. Best of luck on your trip, NO is truly a great state.

There is BayouSegnette State Park on the west bank oh NOLA. It’s about 20 minutes from downtown NO and a world away in atmosphere. Rates are reasonable and the sites are mostly very spacious. We visited Fairview once and had trouble getting our Tiffin RED way from the overhanging trees.

Thank you! We’re still studying our options.

Bayou Segnette SP is pretty nice (and spacious) on the west bank, so is Fountainbleau SP on the north shore but a 24 mile bridge with a toll stands between it and NOLA. I would avoid NO East, between NOLA and Slidell, thats the area that makes the "bad" news. Hope that doesn't offend anyone but I live 55 miles s.west of NOLA and they are my local news, sooo....
just my 2 cents
