Northern Iowa or Minnesota ideas

We are currently at the Winnebago Rally in Forest City, Iowa. If we go over to IS35 and head North we hit Minn very quickly and that is a State we would like to visit and color in on our map! Any campground ideas appreciated.

Also North East Iowa would be OK also. We may even decide to go up in MN a little farther north. So open to ideas.

Prefer a State or Federal Campground with at least 30 amp and water at the site. Seems water at the site is harder to find up in the North but that would be nice. FHU would be great.

Thanks everyone and happy trails.

Northern Iowa or Minnesota ideas

Kalona Iowa has a town park with FHU. in town the chamber gives a county tour (very reasonable) of the Amish community. NW of there about 45 mile is The Amana Colonies settlement.

Also in that area is the I-80 truck stop. For sure worth a visit. Advertises as the biggest in the world.

Then a trip north along the Mississippi scenic road north to Minnesota

Lake Shetek State Park in Currie, MN (SW MN) is very nice. FHU and 50Amp spots. Been there on 5 day trips each of the last two years and we'll go back next year too.

There is a nice state park just miles east of Grand Casino in Hinckley. Its on the St Croix (sp) river. Very nice. Then you have to go North to Gooseberry Falls. Then up to Grand Maray. There are tons of places to see and more than 10,000 lakes.

Bring mosquito spray in the land of 100,000 swamps.
The only camping I have done in MN is Timber Mill Park (that is where family resides).

A couple years ago we visited the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Very interesting history of which significant remnants remain. There is a huge cg in a pasture nearby. The Hoover Presidential Library and home are about 40 miles east in West Branch. We missed it but plan to visit someday.
President Hoover was hugely popular at the time of his election but is now mostly remembered for the Depression which began on his watch.
In Dubuque you will find many remarkable churches and an aquarium devoted to the Mississippi River. Another future visit for us.
The drive north on US151 from Cedar Falls to Dubuque was a delight. It is a divided four-lane (not an Interstate). Our favorite kind of highway. It passes through rolling farmland.
Best wishes for a safe, fun trip!

I believe 151 goes from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque. It is indeed a beautiful ride.

Myre Big Island State Park

First, thanks for all the input - wrote it all down.

Has anyone experience with Myre Big Island State Park? It is near IS35 as you enter MN from the South. They have two campgrounds - Big Island and White Fox. Any experience there?
