Northern lights?

How far north do I have to go for a good view of the northern lights? And what time of year do I go?

We're in North Pole, were looking to go outside in a few minutes (11pm). The forecast has been good for next few nights.
Leaving here Sunday for the trip home. Hope to see some in the Yukon.

The Aurora Borealis is an awesome sight to behold. I do hope you get to see them.
Good Luck.

Saw a fairly good display last night in Fairbanks AK. area. Just walked out now 10:30pm and their just starting up. Should be better closer to midnight. Back at home (Cleveland Ohio) if one can get away from the city lights, you can see them over Lake Erie.

Not sure what time of year is best but i know the "UP" in michigian gets northern lights. we spent the summer there and saw none but it seems this past week they have had them. Northern Lights encore possible in West Michigan this weekend | WOODTV.com

I did not us this site
SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids
because i did not have cell service up there but i was told it has some type of feature that will email or text you when the lights are maybe going to happen.
