You'll definately have to plan ahead if you're not leaving til Oct. Many, many campgrounds shut down after Labor Day weekend.

Between Acadia and the Cabot Trail is a place you might enjoy, Campobello. You might stat at Cobscook State Park, home of the highest tides, and visit Eastport lighthouse, and on to FDR's summer place. It is a beauty.

X2 on Campobello Island. Check out campgrounds in Lubec,Maine. From Lubec, you can cross over the Roosevelt International Bridge onto Canada's Campobello Island on the Bay of Fundy. Here is the summer home of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt. Interesting history and very scenic.

NB is beautiful. The Fundy trail is lovely I second the hopewell rocks suggestion of you are going a lot of the campgrounds in NB start to close down in September. I'd call ahead and make reservations. It does get quite chilly in the evenings so bring sweaters and jackets. Have fun

Wow! Good thing I got on to check on whether to reserve or not. Planning on two week trip from Cincy,Oh thru NY,NH then up to Bar Harbor for week. Leaving week of Sept. 28. Plan to come back down coast thru Wash. DC. Sounds like concensus is to reserve for sure!?
Don't know why , I figured travels may have slowed down a bit by then.
Didn't want to be on a time crunch to get to a reservation.
Going for the fall colors for our first time in retirement.

Any more thoughts on this, from anyone?

Bring some warm clothes as it could get chilly. Propane for heating at night...

End of September to mid October is prime leaf peeping season in New England. The CG fill fast, especially Columbus Day weekend. It's our last hurrah!
