Northern Tier PA / Southern Tier NY Destinations

We've recently relocated from the Gulf Coast to the Northern Tier PA / Southern Tier NY area (near Elmira). We've found the Watkins Glen KOA so far, but want to find some nicer resort destinations within a couple hours drive of this area. Most of the places we've seen up in this area are not what we were used to from traveling on the Gulf - paved sites, heated pools/hot tubs, club houses, etc... I'd be thrilled if I could find something like Belle Terra (Folely, AL)! Love to hear your recommendations!

I've been house shopping the Finger lakes and central NY area for 2 seasons.

It may be due to the short seasons, but I haven't seen the resort type CGs that the warmer states offer.

twinboat is correct. Due to the shorter season up here most don't have or can't justify the fine finishes that you will see in places like Florida that can operate year round.

I grew up in the area and I have never ran across ones like in the south. I would not pass up the 1000 island region in upstate NY for the lack of such a resort.

This might be one you would enjoy

Just a note about the area, we are just north of Syracuse, NY and it's still dropping into the low 50s at night.

Makes for a very short season.

See the Glenn Curtiss museum, the Corning museum and Watkins Glenn itself is a beautiful park (all in the area). Market Street in Corning is neat. We took a sail plane ride while in Elmira. Make sure to go north to see some of the Finger Lakes area and wineries. Pretty fun area.

Sorry. No resorts north of PA. The season is to short, the land is to expensive to expand older CG. You may just have to take a breath and adjust. Check out Jamestown and the Lucy and Desi museum. Also take a ride on the Erie Canal.

A bit north of there these folks try:

https://www.appleislandresort.com/

We were there around 5 years ago. It was nice then and they say they have done more to upgrade.

I think that aside from the weather there is more of a rustic ethic than a glamcamp ethic in the NE.

You might have some luck with campgrounds along Lake Ontario. More full season and year round sites along the southern shore. Sorry we can't be of more help. We live in the Finger Lakes so everything here is within a days drive from the house. When we take the RV we usually load the motorcycles, canoe, and kayaks and boondock in the Adirondacks. The more remote the better. There are some great day trips from the Finger Lakes also. Just stay out of the mountains before the 4th of July as the black flies up there can be pretty fierce.
