October camping in Maine

Hi - We were thinking about a trip to Maine mid-October, but it seems most private CGs close around Columbus Day. I'm a State and National Park kind of guy, but some hookups that time of year might be nice. We were thinking coastal areas, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, etc. Anyone have any suggestions for places to stay?

Moorings Oceanfront Campground in Belfast this is a privately owned one. Also Camden Hills State Park in Camden 1st come 1st serve that time of yr if they are open. Watch the weather conditions that time of yr it changes fast from warm to cold and stormy. Both are reviewed on this web site

We just spent four nights at the Homestead by the River in Biddeford. It is right on the Saco River and a fairly short ride to Old Orchard Beach and other coastal areas. For Maine is was a bargin at $30 a night for a big 50 amp and water pull through site. Not sure when they close, but the Homestead is a year round house.

There are many options still at that time of year. However I would only suggest one.

CALL AHEAD FIRST!

Burns, I'm with you.
I plan to travel from October 5 - 14 with my goal being Bar Harbor. I'm not sure what Irene did, so I don't lnow if I should head south instead.
Bar Harbor KOA got some good ratings from folks I have talked to, but I'm afraid about travel conditions left behind from the storm.

We got a lot of rain and wind both, but for trhe most part faired quite well. Sebago Lake State Park was probably hit the hardest.
I doubt you will find a campground closed because of storm damages
