Will be NM around Oct. 8th. Will be coming from Hurricane Utah. What are your favorite things to do and places to stay in NM?

ABQ is a nice area. We like the KOA North, since it's closer to Santa Fe. Great walk-around shopping in Santa Fe, and driving up to the summit of Sandia Mt. (or taking the cable car) gives a wonderful view.

The balloon fest is from Oct. 3 to 11, so it will be crowded then.

Avoid the balloon festival time. The RV parks jack up the prices at that time.

For Santa Fe, Santa Fe Skies is probably the best RV park to stay. You can do a day trip to Taos from there. You could also stay at Cochiti Lake Corp of Engineer campground to visit Santa Fe.

Lots of chance for fall color and nice seasonal weather in the northern part of the state. Here are several things to consider:
1) Cumbres and Toltec steam railroad. Located in Chama, NM
2) Taos, NM and all of the small towns around the area: such as Red River, Eagle Nest, Angel Fire, Questa.
3) Santa Fe
4) Los Alamos. Bradbury Museum and lot of fall color right now
5) Albuquerque, which has many things to see and do.
6) A bit further south, but Ruidoso is a nice visit

Hi julesverne,

It might be easier if you tell us what things you like to do and we point you to some places in NM to do them.

I enjoy getting away from the people - the NM State Parks are all pretty nice, most of them away from cities. There are many forest service campgrounds and huge expanses for dispersed camping. If you like mountain bike riding, the Gallup area has some great trails as does Albuquerque (but lots of people too).

The higher elevations (7000' and up) may be cooling off so, depending on your definition of "comfortable", you may want to seek out the lower spots. However; sometimes the higher spots stays pretty comfortable well into December.
