Ohio to Yellowstone
We have four, 40 foot motorhomes leaving Ohio for a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, with stops at Elkhart, ----, Rapid City,Cody, and West Yellowstone. We are planning to stop at Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone, but are wide open to suggestions for any and all stops in between. We do not dry camp and our wives are addicted to water and Electricity. We drive about 350 miles a day. I know i can refer to Good Sam, AAA, and FMCA for tour guides, but would like to get sone experienced info from fellow coach owners.

I'm planning the same trip from Columbus Ohio next year so I'll be interested in the replies.

If you've got toads, I'd suggest Wall, SD. Sleepy Hollow CG in Wall is 2 blocks from the famous Drug Store and you could visit Badlands NP in your toad from there. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Wind Cave NP are also places we've enjoyed on many trips to YNP. (I worked, taught, and guided the area Yellowstone/Teton for 20 years) In YNP, there is a swimming hole south of Madison Junction, on the Firehole Canyon Drive near the south end of the one way loop, not too far from West Yellowstone. It's maintained by the rangers, but it's not marked on any maps. You can also 'soak' in the hot water runoff of Mammoth Hot Springs in the 'Boiling River.' Park in the parking lot at the 45º parallel parking lot off the road between Mammoth CG and Gardener, MT. Be sure to take a hike while in YNP, 98% of visitors never get out of sight of their car! A short walk takes you into solitude and the REAL park. Also check for in park Campfire talks at campgrounds. You can listen to the talk then drive back out to Grizzly for the night, just be careful of BHM's on the road at night! (BHM = Big Hairy Mammals)

Great advice from BFlinn181 and for sure you'll like Grizzly RV Park. West Yellowstone is a great town to walk thru as well. For sure watch for the BHM's and have a great trip.

After Yellowstone, I would suggest you travel south through the park into Grand Teton Nat'l Park and stay at Colter Bay RV if you need hookups. Don't try to do both park from West Yellowstone.

There is so much to see & do along the way. If you leave Elkhart & use I 80 to Davenport, you can then stay at Corp of engineers camps up the Mississippi, to I 90. Then The "Corn palace" in Mitchel, SD. ,Then Wall, the Badlands, then Any campground just south of Rapid City, to be your "base" as you "car drive" around Custer state park, the needles hwy, the tunnels, gambling in Deadwood, Spearfish canyon, etc. Could require 4 or 5 days though. Could see Devils tower too. Not to far off the main path. Then if you head south from Tetons, to I 80, stop at "Flaming George" on your way home. Take a "car trip" to dinosaur park.. You guys should have a blast. Have fun.
