Options for Canada's Okanogan Valley

Success --

Weekend: 2 nights in Vancouver at Capilano River RV Park (ok, the kids had some influence), traveling east afterwards on Hwy 3.

Monday night at Lightning Lake campground (E.C. Manning Provincial Park).

Tuesday and Wednesday night at Apple Beach RV Resort on Tucelnuit Lake (Oliver) in the Okanagan Valley.

Thursday will include a brief visit to my old home town (Omak, WA). From there, continuing on to Winthrop to visit a relative, enjoy the old west town flair and spend the night.

For the beginning, Friday and Saturday nights we are purposely leaving open as "unreserved" camping options and will choose sites based on how far south we choose to travel, purposely avoiding the less touristy/crowded areas as needed in order to spend the night. We will likely take in Lake Chelan, Leavenworth, and meander along highway 12 between Mount Adams and Rainier. All told, about 22 hours of driving for the full 9 day trip, with "front loading" the first 5 hours on Friday to be well north of Seattle.

Saturday's crossing into Canada (truck crossing) will be early, hoping for not too much of a hassle. I have read the declaration lists, and what to avoid. No worries as I am "that guy" which typically gets searched if anyone is going to get searched based on my past travels, so I keep everything by the book.

Thanks for several good suggestions. They influenced our options and helped while chasing the fully booked reservation realities of several places.

JMHO: If your driving into Vancouver BC on a Friday; or any ; afternoon to get to the Northshore & Capilano RV park I see listed on the map . You will want to be crossing the border into Canada before Noon , so you can get to the RV park before 3 pm . Friday afternoon rush hour traffic is GRIDLOCK in Vancouver and that route takes you through the worst of it.

Thanks Skip - we are going in on Saturday morning. I expect Monday traffic on the way out to be fun but perhaps the holiday will help a little.

Just east of Hope, BC, stop for a short hike, or bike, at Othello Tunnels. Another stop on the Kettle Valley Railway. Many tunnels, right above the river. 1 or 2k walk. Something to see.
Also in Hope, Blue Moose coffee shop, and wood carvings across the street at city park. Much to do......

Thanks for this. We will check it out. Keep the great sights coming! . I found that the Hedley Mascot Mine is closed for tours this year. As a kid we used to go to the Nighthawk mine (ghost town) just south of the border but that has been removed in recent years.
