Orange County CA to Kansas City

I am looking for driving directions help & also camping location around Kansas City, Overland Park area that may not be listed on campgroundreviews.com site. By looking on the site there does not look like there are many choices.

I am looking for the fastest route but also would like some decent roads if possible.

Headed to Overland Park for my daughter soccer team. They won Regional Championship and will compete in Kansas for National Championships July 21-28th.

Thanks in advance for everyones input.

Trying to rack my brain for a close one to the soccer parks. Should be the ones on 135th street close to 69. Not alot of good options close. Walnut Grove is in Shawnee but that's a drive down I35. There's a Saddle Ridge in Hillsdale that would be closer just go up 169 to 135th street. Most campgrounds around here on the east side of KC along I70 or the west side. Not sure how good these campgrounds are.. been by Walnut Grove a few times and it's a well kept park. Good luck.

I'd travel out of L.A. via 15N to 40E and on to 54 / 35 / and in to Overland Park area on 50 -- Looks like the nearest campground to Overland Park area is Walnut Grove RV www.walnutgroverv.com - there is also Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo area but it looks like it is 15 miles from Overland Park.

While visiting the area I'd recommend Gates BBQ and a great steak at Hereford House Restaurants (they have several locations).

Safe Travels and Congratulations to your daughter !!

Walnut grove rv park on Johnson drive, or cottonwood rv park on I70 and 7 highway. Cottonwood is probably the easiest access right off the interstate near the speedway. Walnut grove will be closer to the soccer park but more city. Both are no frills, I've never stayed at either but friends have. If you want BBQ go to Oklahoma joes, it's the best. Lots to do,eat, shop by the speedway which is close to cottonwood. Cottonwood is probably 25 mins from the soccer complex, walnut grove would take about the same but city driving. If you want to drive farther there are more options but these are the closest I know of. Good luck on the tourney the fields are nice.

We stayed at Walnut Grove a month ago. We chose the CG because of it's location to the city. The site we were assigned was gravel and uneven but that was all trumped by it's proximity to the city. We only slept in our RV so it was okay for us. It seems that urban sprawl grew around this CG so I seriously doubt if they could build one there today. We would definitely stay there again if we travel through KC again. Be sure to reserve a site early!
X2 on Oklahoma Joe's. It is a great gas station/bbq restaurant that is very basic and reasonable. Might want to check out Pellet Envy. Noticed today on Food Channel that they won the KC Pit Master BBQ Championship. Another favorite is Arthur Bryant's on Brooklyn for old style traditional BBQ brisket (recommend you go during the day). Coldest beer in town and best fries too. Lots of good choices for great BBQ in that town. Enjoy!

Took 40, 54 to 35. Took us 25 hours. Had a hard time getting out of So Cal traffic and some over heating issues but overall it was a smooth ride.

Foley Cat found my overheating issue, exhaust came off and all the air was going straight to engine compartment. Installed two new clamps and we should not have any issues going home. If anyone needs service on CAT while in Kansas City area Foley was a great operation. A lot cheaper than So Cal also.

Daughter team is in finals for national championships tonight. Will head for home early Sunday morning.

Thanks

Ended up staying in Marriott parking lot where the team stayed. Used Grove to dump & fill with water.

Daughters team won the National Championship for GU13. Makes the drive home very easy. Watching a friends son in the BU17 final and then headed back to So Cal.

Congrats to the team. My son played soccer through high school so I know what an accomplishment it is to win the championship!
