Oregon Parks and Rec dept is great!

Several years ago I applied for and received a Veterans Access Pass to Oregon State Parks. I misplaced or lost the pass somehow. I sent an inquiry to Oregon Parks regarding a replacement, last Monday morning, and received a reply by mid morning. To make a long story short, the lady I corresponded with, found my name in the system, and arranged to send me a replacement pass, which I received yesterday, Friday. 5 days after my initial request!

I was very pleasantly surprised with the speed a government entity was able to demonstrate in handling my request. I sent a thank you to the Directors office acknowledging the efficiency of the ladies involved, and immediately received an acknowledgement and thank you for the email.

This just reinforces my opinion that Oregon is a great state and is managed very efficiently.

We are headed to Oregon later this summer and we are looking forward to our return.

Glad they were able to help you out. While OPRD is part of the state, technically it is not a government agency in the strictest sense as they get no, ZERO tax dollars. This is our first summer as a volunteer with the OPRD and am so excited to get out and help our fellow campers in any way we can. Have fun in our parks and please return again and again.

Government or not, I am certainly impressed. Are you volunteer hosts? if so, what park. We'll plan on the Colombia River Gorge first, hoping to get into Memaloose park for a while.

July we will be at Goose Lake in south central Oregon. September will be at Lapine. Which is about 30 miles south of Bend. Next year is too far away. Might do Camp Attitude for a couple weeks next year. Grand daughter is mentally challanged so a week thete supporting them would be a good thing. Then maybe the coast Sept 2013

We are also voluntering this summer with OR State Parks and have been VERY impressed with their coordinators. Quick reply to our host applications, very thorough info on the job with lots of follow-up beforehand. We start in July so can't say anything about the job yet, but sure am impressed with the organization.

Where are you going to be in July? And did you go to the training in Salem this spring?

We have also been impressed with the OPRD from a first time volunteer perspective and also as visitors to some of the other OPRD properties along the coast.

As some of you already know we have been volunteering at the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse this month and we've been having a ball. What probably has made this experience so much fun is the fact that we've been partnered with another couple who have been coming back the the lighthouse every year for the past 14 years and they have the whole thing down to a simple routine. They've kept it interesting and taught us so much. Not only about the lighthouse, but also volunteering in general. Our tour here will end on the 28th and we will truly miss Newport, Yaquina Bay, the lighthouse and all of the people we've met here. On the 29th we'll move 120 miles down the road to Bullard's Beach SP CG where we'll serve as Greeter Hosts for the rest of the summer. So far it's been one of the best experiences we've had since we began full-timing last year.

We're going to be interpretive hosts at Cape Blanco Lighthouse on the coast. No training yet. We have a full day of it when we arrive.
