Oregon to So Cal

DH and I doing our first "big" roadtrip in our Newmar Bay Star 3124. Looking for ideas on places to stay near San Francisco. DH has never been to the city and would like to stay somewhere close enough to take toad into city.

We will be travelling south on the 101 returning from Oregon. Home is Southern California Have booked a stay in Eureka so looking for suggestions to get us on down the road for home.

Thanks so much

We did that trip last year and accidentally ended up driving through the City and over the Golden Gate bridge. The Bridge was ok, but the City was no fun to drive through so I would stay well away from it and drive your Toad into the City. We didn't really find any CG's we wanted to stay in close to San Francisco as most were way too tight and overcrowded. An hour either way north/south you will find many places to stay that are reasonable and not a bad drive into the City in a Toad.

Yes we are definitely not interested in driving the MoHo through the city. Can I ask where you ended up staying?

You could stay at the Napa Valley Expo then drive your toad to the Larkspur ferry landing. Take the ferry across and it lets you off around Fisherman's Wharf cruising past Alcatraz. Pre-arrange for a small van tour. We did that and it was a fabulous full day - even getting to Sausalito for lunch. Our daughter who lives there joined us and even she was impressed with the tour.

Traveling south on 101 you can head east near Petaluma on hwy 37 heading to Vallejo then over to Concord heading south on 680 and pick up 101 in or near San Jose. You'd miss the thrill of driving through San Francisco. If you choose that route you could stay ay the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton and take BART into the city.

I've stayed at the SF RV Resort overlooking the ocean several times. I normally just drive to the nearby BART station and take it into downtown. I'm planning to stay there in late October since I have to work a software show....Oracle OpenWorld.
