Our Second Camping Trip to Camp Pen
We are going to spend Memorial Day weekend at Lake O'Neill on Camp Pendleton Marine Corp base. We are still learning our coach and figured a place close to home would be a safe place to learn and have a good time. We can always run home if we forget something
Our grandchildren are looking forward to playing in the park and fishing in the lake. I will check in next week with an update on what we learned.

That sounds good. I suppose Lake Skinner is a little too close to feel like you're getting away from home.
Have fun and good luck!

Funny you would say that the DW had the grandchildren at Lake Skinner yesterday to play in the splash zone and suggested that we camp there next month. We are taking baby steps before our trip to Texas and Tenn this summer.

We had a great time!!
I thought I would check in and say that our Memorial Weekend trip to Camp Pendleton's Lake O'Neill was a success. We had a great time met a large number of vet's and shared a few sea stories. But the biggest topic was our motor home which attracted a lot of attention and lots of really nice complements. I have to admit staying in our MH was not camping like the many families that tent camped this weekend by the lake with the snakes and ground squirrels. Now they were camping.
Here is a picture of our campsite with the lake just behind us.

Chief, I lived on that base 20 years ago in O'Neil housing up the hill from the hospital. My daily runs took me around the lake, but I didn't pay much attention to the camping facilities at the time. From that picture, it looks like a parking lot with hookups? Is this correct?
Nice looking coach, BTW.

Well that was not what I was trying to show when I took the picture. What you don't see are the many tent campers behind our rig, the two play grounds for kids, volley ball, fire rings, picnic tables and a nice quiet lake for fishing. There is a row of trees next to where I was standing and behind me are trees and a row of 5th wheelers.
I am sure it not the same place it was 20 yrs ago and if your looking for a place to rest for a few days you can't beat the price.

Yes, parking lot with hook-ups, power and water, no sewage.
