Know I realize that many of us are putting our "beasts" into hibernation for the winter, but we already planning for our next trip. The reason is that I have to have vacation bids in by the end of november for 2012. My wife and I have been tossing the idea around about going to OBX. We have 2 boys ages 3 and 5. Is there a particular place in the OBX that anyone would recommend over another? Friends of ours go to Emerald Isle each year and they love it. My concern is that I am not sure how much there will be for the kids, with the exception of the beach of course. I have been scouring the internet and I thought I would rather have first hand information. I try to take vacations that the kids enjoy.

Kitty Hawk area has plenty to do for kids. Only one RV campground around tho, Its old and has only a small playground, but it has its own beach front across the road.
we stayed there in Aug. We are booked to return in 2012, but as I stated, not another choice around other then 35 miles south of there. Kitty Hawk RV Park.

Both the Hatteras KOA and Camp Hatteras have playgrounds and other activities for Kids. We stayed at the KOA when our Daughter was little, but now that she's long gone from the nest we found that Ocean Waves is more to our likely, but not much there for the kids. In the Waves/Salvo area there are public areas on the bay side which is great for kids. No waves and you can go out a long ways and only be a little over knee deep. Enjoy

Thank you for the replies so far, but we are looking for more than a playground. I didn't know if there were certain tourism spots that would be fun,and or educational. When I was growing up my parents always made sure we able see just about everything. If it helps we have 2-3 weeks to spend traveling. Thanks again.

Myrtle Beach,SC may be a better choice for you. The beaches in NC are very nice, but little for the children this time of the year. We have found the weather very pleasant in November and alot of places are still open.

We (including our now 13 year old) have done Emerald Isle each year since 2004. Our vists have been in June,July,August depending on schedules. Your vacation bids need to be in by Nov but you are thinking about warmer weather for the trip in question -yes ??
HTP has a Rec Director with activities for the kids. Some beach play, some away from the water. There are movie nights, DJ nights, lots of friendly seasonals.
We walk to go-karts and water slides. We bike to mini golf, movies, dining, groceries, ice cream, Bogue Inlet Pier (fishing). There is an actual bike path - not the berm of the road.
Have day-tripped to Beaufort NC and toured the Maritme Museum. Have day-tripped to Fort ??? for some more history.
There is not the touristy stuff that you would find at Myrtle Beach (Gay Dolphin, amusement rides, ...). Between lazy days at the beach and what I've described above, we can keep ourselves occupied for a week.
Think about EI.
