Over the mountains in Oregon
We want to go from Bend, OR to Florence. It looks like no matter how you go, you have to transcend a pass. I cannot believe that Good Sam Trip Planning takes you over McKenzie Pass... the writeup in the Mountain Directory all but tells you not to go there. Going south out of Bend and taking route 58 up to Eugene looks like a decent option, but on the Good Sam Trip Routing it says there is a place where the clearance is 12' 6", but the mountain directory says 13' 8". Would route 58 over Willamette pass be a reasonable way to go? Any other suggestions?

Hwy 58 is a great road. no issues on height, width or grade. don't know what your driving but in my dp i " drift off all the way down between 50 - 60 and never really touch the brakes. you could also take Hwy 20 out of bend then switch over to 126,
the Mckenzie and go into Eugene that way. Again great road with no issues for any size mh.
hope this helps

Your best bet is to take 20 out of Bend...through Sisters and then at the 20/22 "Y", take 22 and just down the road cut off on 126. McKensey pass is not all that bad. Been over it with the mh/toad many times.

ahhhh NO! wrong answer! 126 does not take off 22, but takes off 20. if he takes 22 he will end up in Salem, not Eugene.

58 is a major truck route. The pass elevation is only around 4000 feet no biggie in the grand scheme of things. From Bend your fastest route to the valley and beyone is as we told you before, 20/22 thru Salem to Valley Junction, 18 to the coast and 101 south. Enjoy the coast scenery on your wsy south.

McKenzie Pass is on Hwy 242 out of Sisters. Do not take 242.
You would want to take, from Bend, Hwy 20 to 126 over Santiam Pass (easy) then stay on 126 to Eugene, OR. From Eugene continue on 126 to Florence.
We've done this route often with our 40' motorhome. No problems except for curvy so you won't make fast time - just allow enough so you don't feel rushed.
There's no need to head south out of Bend to Hwy 58.
126 pretty much follows alongside rivers and it's very scenic. Have a great trip!
