Will be making a marathon run to Forest City from VA and am looking to "overnight" somewhere in this vicinity....Looking more for recommendations on a Flying J or something...
I'll be checking my "Next Exit" and the "Rv'ers Friend" but would like to hear some thoughts...

If your on 80 w there is a Casino in Joliet,ILL beyound CHICAGO, x-130a south on Il-7 1 mile,Argosy's Empress Casino CG, follow signs. There is CG before that but thru streets in CHICAGO area. ANY gas center you could stop at, on highway done it many times on a trip like your making. Have a safe trip. "007"

There is a Flying J somewhere in the Michigan City, Indiana area off I-94. It is fairly well marked but I can't recall the exit. I believe there may also be one right near the border with Illinois, also off I-94.

Try to avoid the horrible traffic jams on 80/94 and 294 just past the Indiana border. I 80 westbound is OK after the exit off of 294 but bad just before. Gas is cheaper in Indiana, not Illinois. Windy City CG, Tinley Park, IL is about closest to IL and IN border going west on 80 but if you like to gamble the casino is about 12 miles further

The shortest route from Virginia Beach to Forest City is I-65>I-95>I-70>I-80>I-35. Gary, IN is at the IN/IL border. That's 13 hours (no stops) from Virginia Beach. There are Flying J's at IN exit 9A and 21 on I-80. Both have restaurants that you will need.

A couple of years ago we were headed to Forest City and came through Indianapolis and caught I-74 west. There are not a lot of campgrounds in that area. We stayed at exit 52 Jamestown at the Overnite CG. (follow the signs)
Full hookups etc, but small (38 spaces). A super nice lady runs the place. I believe we paid something like 15-20 dollars. Great place to overnite and relax for the night.

I was born and raised in Danville, Illinois which is almost on the Indiana/Illinois state line. There are several places to camp/Kickapoo state park which shows to be Oakwood and ther is a nice campground in Georgetown call Forest Glen. There is also in Indiana Turkey Run state Park and Raccoon Lake state Park along with Shades state Park. Do a google search for these and check them out
