 I need your ideas!!
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip without the kids (they will be on their own vacation with an Aunt).
We have decided we are going to go camping in the mountains...we started thinking about the Smokey's and Blue Ridge Parkway. Then I thought, I have never been to the Ozarks.
Any suggestions? Nice campgrounds???

What part of the Ozarks are you looking to travel to? Ar or Mo?

We really haven't made any decisions yet. We won't be going until the end of June. We would like someplace that is on a river or lake and has good day hiking and/or caverns and/or historical sites to visit. It also needs to be K-9 friendly as well.

A very nice park is Petit Jean State Park about an hour north of Little Rock off of I-40. It was Arkansas first state park and has lots of hiking trails, a nice lodge and restaurant, and a great camp ground (ask for area A, full hook ups). It is not a large mountain (800-900 ft) but it is a beautiful area. Also, it is pet friendly....

WOW! That is a beautiful campground! We were checking the availability, and they do not have a full hook up site available for the time frame we are looking for. But since we aren't going until the end of June, I will keep checking it. The rates seem very reasonable as well...do you know if the 50amp sites have a 30amp connection?
Thank you for the information!!

Has anyone ever been here?
Dogwood Springs Park in Jasper, AR

It sounds nice, but the pictures seem a little dated...first hand knowledge is always good.
Thank you in advance!!

Hi Eric,
I think these destinations are in the area you are considering:
Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas Go here to see the web site. In this park, it is finders keepers. Who knows, you may find a large diamond and be set for life.
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas Go here to see their web site. This is close to Crater of Diamonds. You can dig for your fortune one day and get a great massage and be treated like royalty the next day.
Branson, MO. Go here for the web site. There is lots to do. On the outskirts of Branson there are fishing and hiking opportunities.
I've been to all these places (with grand kids). If you have additional quesitons, let me know.

Thank you Gary! We are considering the Crater of Diamonds...that sounds like a lot of fun, not to mention, it has the potential to be profitable! My GF seems to like the idea as well (go figure, girls and diamonds...whoulda thunk it?)
I really appreciate your input!!

Thanks for all your input. We have booked a week at the Crater of Diamonds SP. The idea of finding our own diamonds is intriguing to us. Should be fun!!

Good afternoon everybody! We are packing tonight and hitting the road tomorrow late afternoon (have to put the kids on a plane to TX). We will be staying at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. It seems to be a popular spot this year and I have been receivign their newsletters weekly about all the diamonds everyone has been finding.
Thank you all for your reccomendations!!! Probably would not have decided this destination without your input.
Have a great summer!!!
