Google Images has more than a few shots of Horseshoe Bend for those who are interested. Some are over-processed exxaggerations.

It's hot in Page. In the 90s today.

I agree. Lake Powell is spectacular. I was just today looking at that boondocking site mentioned above. I camped in a friend's recreational vehicle of another style. He made the offer to return again this Fall and I am seriously considering going back.

Waheap is an amazing campground (great views, huge sites). Lone Rock is a fabulous boondocking spot. Those are the two spots I'd recommend.

Regarding Antelope Canyon, you do not have to go with one of the companies on the main drag in Page. Drive out near Navajo Generating Station and park in the lot there. Tours are about 1 1/2 hours long and they start about 15 min apart. I would guess maybe a dozen folk per tour. The indian guides are great. One of the nice things they do is give people tips on how to set up their cameras and phones to get the best pictures.

I made it to Lone Rock...

...and it's been a real adventure so far. I'm just starting to blog about my trip (I became a full-timer a couple weeks ago) and I just created an entry about Lone Rock. You can find it at RussOnTheRoad.wordpress.com should you care too. It's at the top of the front page now (5/1/14) but it will get moved when I create my next post. Look for the entry titled "Holy Crap" made this date.

Russ, that was a great blog read on Lone Rock - sand and wind adventures!

We've stayed there but always park on the upper level - nice views, easy walk to the beach and it seems quieter because folks want to be right on the beach.

Hope your next stop is less adventurous.

By now you have figured out the way to get down to the beach is to take the road to the left just before the rest rooms. Enjoy your stay.

Russ, we too enjoyed your blog. We go to Lake Powell in early-September and the sandy beach where you parked is normally under water, with only a much narrower strip of beach to park on. Lake Powell water level is rising very fast right now from all the snow melt in the Rockies. Here's water level data that shows how fast it's rising:
