Pagosa Springs to ??

We are from Louisiana; have been in Santa Fe for 5 days, 10 days in Pagosa Springs and have 1 more week before we return to Louisiana. Trying to decide between Durango and Silverton. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are traveling in 33' class A pulling a Grand Cherokee. Thanks!!

I would head on up to Buena Vista - Leadville - Quincy's - Turquoise Lake - Independence Pass - Maroon Bells - Collegiates - Rt 24 to Minturn and back maybe Stopping in Red Cliff - Crested Butte -

That should keep you busy for the last week and give you a good reason to return to enjoy much of this again.

Best of Luck

CREEDE is very beautiful and near Pagosa. We loved it! http://www.mountainviewsrv.com/rv-park.html

IF you have a Jeep or are willing to rent one, Silverton is incredible due to all the old mining trail roads that you can explore! (Check Jeep reservations prior to making a decision)

We've been there twice and stayed in Durango and visited Silverton. We didn't want to cross the two mountain passes on the Million Dollar Highway in an RV although some do it and unless you are an off-roader, you may find a week in Silverton is too long. It's pretty easy to visit both Silverton and Ouray by car from Durango and there is much more to do there and in the other directions than north.

Did you come down to Pagosa Springs through Wolf Creek Pass like C.W. McCall and his buddy Earl?

Durango and Silverton are both our favorite places in SW Colorado. You could base at one and do the other or split your week between the two. With your Jeep you really need to ride one of the trails up there. They are for all abilities. Stop at the Visitor Center as soon as you enter town. They have the maps and can advise you. It would be a LOT cooler in Silverton. Have fun!

I'm about two weeks behind you. Can't vouch for these places yet, but they seem to get great reviews. We are staying at Junction Creek Campground outside of Durango and then Priest Gulch between Dolores and Telluride. Can't wait, although we finally did get a break from the 100 degree days.

Nice day trip over to Moab from Dolores if you're looking for something to add to your agenda. Have a great trip!

Y'all got me a bit scared now .... we are doing Wolf Creek Pass next week in our Motorhome and pulling a Dodge Ram. So far on our trip, we haven't had a problem, but didn't do Teton Pass in the MH ... so .... thoughts on doing it in a diesel motorhome? I have a two stage jake brake that seems to hold us pretty well on the down sides of most mountains. Lynn

Have done it twice in 1997 American Eagle with Pac-Brake and was never a worry.

No worries! It winds around and you won't need speed. But look for pullouts as the the scenery is gorgeous!
