Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Need Advice
So we are staying in Palo Duro Canyon at the end of April. We will be taking our Grey Wolf 23dbh. My question is to anyone that stayed here, what was the nest camping area? I know they have 3 different ones. Hackberry, Mesquite and Sagebrush. Which one seemed to have the best views and spaced out well. Thanks for ANY advice!

One of my favorite places. I believe we stayed in the first campground you get to. It maybe the only one with electric and water. Enjoy your stay and make sure you hike to Kings castle and hike from the bottom up to the top.

One of our favorites as well. We stayed in Sagebrush (1st cg at bottom) as we are 45' and were not sure about the others. We probably could have gone farther back but would have to check each one first. Sagebrush is the closest to the amphitheater and also close to a small store. Lots to see and do if you don't mind a little hike.

Thanks so much! If I remember correctly, Sagebrush is closer to the canyon wall. I havnt been there in probably 20 years. Am I correct in thinking this?

Absolutely one of the hidden gems in America!! If you are visiting in April, I suggest that you stay at the closest campground to the exit.... when the storms come.... and they will... you will want to be able to get out fast... there is one road in and one road out.
During April, one of the neatest things will be the turkey breeding season. You will hear a lot of gobbling and see plenty of birds strutting... Last year I was able to walk to within 15 feet of a gobbling bird... loud and quite an experience.
As you experience the park...always keep and eye for different angles for pictures.... the one you miss today, may be your target for tomorrow.
BTW.... In Canyon, TX ... the nearest town... there is a restaurant near the college that has the world's best French fries... Feldman's Wrong Way Diner ... the burgers are great, but the fries are amazing... and go hungry!!!

We really like Mesquite campground - the one farthest in.

Quite a decent from the top to the CG's but doable... Word of caution - LOTS of rattlesnakes so be aware when walking around and watch your dogs.... With the warm weather we're already having in Texas, they might be moving around... Be especially aware at night...

My all time favorite!!! We also stayed in Sagebrush. The views were great, the site backed up to open area.

Looks like we may be stopping here for a couple days on the way home from CO in SEP. Sagebrush or Mesquite, which is roomiest and/or most scenic? They both show to have 30/50A elec. Both look interesting on Google Earth.
