This weekend we will be heading south after two weeks of skiing in Park City. Looking at the map we could go via Heber City on the "189". This providing that the roads are completely clear and dry. This route is shorter than going through Salt Lake City and it also looks prettier.

Would this be a mistake with a 40" MH and a toad? On Google Earth it looks like the smallest roads are wide 2 lanes once you get to the part that follows a river when getting close to Provo.

Haven't made the trip, yet, however that will be our route. The Mountain Directory doesn't have any notations for 189. North of Heber on 40 has notations for 4-5% grades.

There are some grades on 189 but nothing that was any challenge to our TT. It is generally a pretty drive, and the weather looks good this weekend. You can download the Utah DOT app to check road conditions. Right now there are some significant slow downs due to snow. i bet you're finally getting some nice snow in Park City! Where do you stay while you are there?

We are at Park City RV Park on Rasmussen Road. We have been here before and it was almost empty. This time is is close to full.

It's all downhill from where you are and I always take that route barring any present storms which can lead to ice on the roadway.
Look for the frozen falls near the bottom.

I suggest turning at the first light at the bottom and heading back to I-15 to continue south, instead of all the traffic and lights through BYU.

We live just north of Salt Lake City about 20 miles and we prefer to take Hwy189/I-84 much more than Parleys canyon into SLC. The drive is much more scenic and less traffic.

We travel this route several times a year towing our 26' Haulmark Edge enclosed trailer with the Harleys in it behind our 40' coach.

189 it is then (weather providing).

Heading to Moab for a few days. I have been there before but have never been to Canyonlands N.P. Now is the time for that

This weekend it is supposed to be in the high 50's/low 60's along the wasatch front so you should be fine.

Moab next week is supposed to be in the low 70's. We too are heading to Moab next week. Son's spring break.

We life be in the valley. The drive via Heber in the Provo canyon may be shorter it is not faster with dry roads.

I would travel via i80 to i215. Then i15 to Provo.

We did go via 189 and roads are perfect - no regrets.

This route was very scenic and well worth the extra time, if this was the case. No more "hilly" than the main route from Salt Lake City.

Heber City looks like a nice place. Everything was looking well maintained and tidy.

Providing the roads are clear from snow I can recommend this route for big rigs.
