The easiest way to apply for U.S. passport renewal is by mail. You can apply for renewal by mail if your most recent passport is undamaged, you were at least 16 years of age when it was issued, it was not issued more than 15 years ago, and it was either issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change. If all of these are true, you will need to fill in Form DS-82. You can fill in the online form or print a paper form at travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds82/ds82_843.html.

Just google "passport renewal". Did mine a week ago. The price has gone up to $110.

If memory serves me correctly I renewed mine at the county clerks office, court house. At least that's where I submitted the forms and the new passports were sent to me via US Postal Service. That was three or four years ago.

Added: IT does take a lengthy period of time to receive passports.

Your choice of a regular passport, or, a passport card, used solely for travel between the USA and Mexico/Canada.

U.S. Passport Card

Thanx...Looks like a passport card will do the trick. Don't really want to explore the rest of the globe yet. $55 looks like a bargain.

It will also be good if I want to do some skiing in Canada too. The last time I skied was before 9-11, so no passport needed. 4 of us ski buddies did a 1200 mile loop around British Columbia. I remember my one buddy was acting a little goofy when we re-entered the US. Well, the officer was not amused. We had to straighten him up fast in order to get thru.
