I have driven through the state park camping area and it looks great. We didn't know about the state park when we headed that way, so we stayed back in Patagonia at the RV park there. We loved the area. I wrote a trip report:

A Long Winter Camping Trip

Lakewoodpaul..
We were there for a week last spring.. DO NOT go there at Easter.. That is the largest gathering time for Hispanic Folks family Gatherings. It was absolutely wall to wall people over Easter weekend and on Monday the park emptied but looked like a war zone..
It is a excellent birding spot and the rangers take folks on a pontoon ride a couple times a day for $5 a head that points out some of the birds.. They also do birding walks which my wife liked..
It is a smaller park somewhat tight.. You don't mention what size your rig is.. I have a 40 foot coach and just squeezed in where we were.. Look on line and the sizes are all listed..
We are going again for a week this year but not at Easter Time..
Ron

Great birding area. The lake has pretty good fishing. We will be there for two 15 day stints this winter.

The park is nice, especially the birding. Stock up on groceries before you arrive as there are not any large stores. You'll be close to Kartchner Caverns State Park (also has a lovely campground) if you want to do a top-class cavern tour. This cavern is still growing as opposed to Carlsbad Caverns. It's beautiful. The area also has some wineries. Have a great stay!

I have never understood why people go to Fla. Arizona is the place to be, you will love it. I am biased.

I can understand your bias, but Florida warm areas are 1200 mi. from my home. You, in Scottsdale are 2000 mi. from my home. However we do have reservations in Buckskin mt. state park and Patagonia state park.

Patagonia Lake and Buckskin are both in my top 10 favorites. We live near Phoenix and use these and Roper Lake st.park frequently as our short winter get aways.
