Paul B Johnson State Park - MS

Just pulled in last night. Very nice, well maintained park so far. Haven't walked around and done the tour yet, but nice. Sites are a little difficult to find at night, the numbers are on small wooden poles at the rear / sides of each spot, so have a flashlight handy.

Here's our view out the door....

The seal of approval.....

The down side to arriving in the late evening and driving through lower Alabama / Mississippi.....

So, after spending the day catching up with good friends and our god son, we managed to check out most of park. Overall, it's a nice park. The spots are well separated and level. There are spots for those that prefer a little shade and there are those in the open.

The lake itself is small, but nice. There are several swimming areas, a water park, boat launch, and from what I'm hearing OK fishing.

The biggest downside, the shower / bathroom are terrible. They are few and far between, have too few toilets, and the washer / dryers are antique.

But, we do like it. Nice, quiet, well laid out.

Thanks for the info. This park is about 1 1/2 hours from home and we have been thinking about heading there sometimes in November for a few days.

Made a paddle around the area of the lake that doesn't have cabins, beaches, or is otherwise inhabited this morning. There are some great little fishing spots that would be tough to get to in anything bigger than the kayak. Some of them you don't even notice until you just pull up to what looks like a small break in the trees and there ends up being a secluded little hole with plenty of cover and little disturbance.

I think getting out if the main lake and away from the fished to death areas would pay off nicely.

Another note.....the 4G service in the park rocks. 4-5 bars all the time and it easily out paces the coverage at home.

But, again, the bathrooms are horrible. If you haven't christened your own bathroom, this place will make you do it.

If these dogs have it any rougher, I'm not sure they'll make it another day.
