PEI and Nova Scotia- Is it better to do one first?

First time ever after 35 years of working that my wife and I have 2 weeks off. In September, we will leave CT for PEI and NS. Is there any advantage to doing one first. Plan on using ferries for part of the trip. Eager for any advice experienced folks can give. Tim

We spent most of last summer in NS and PEI and enjoyed them both. In case you aren't already aware, the toll to PEI is only collected on the outbound trip regardless of how you got to the Island. So take the ferry to PEI, if you wish, since it is more expensive, and take the bridge back. The bridge toll for our 40' MH plus toad was $60 (Cdn$)

As for whether you do one or the other first, that's really your call. If you are in Halifax during the first two weeks of July, I would recommend seeing the Tattoo, an annual event spectacle which we found very enjoyable. Two weeks isn't a lot of time to do these two provinces, but we'd be glad to provide suggestions. We spent ~8 weeks total in NS and PEI last year and it wasn't our first trip. Condensing that down to 2 weeks total isn't easy. As much as we love PEI, I'm almost thinking that 2 weeks is barely enough time for NS and maybe you should focus on it.

Here is a trip we made many times with groups we would take to the TATTOO in Halifax, N.S. every couple of years.
The trip getting there has sites to see on the way up.
You turn north from Bangor, Maine on route #9 off route #1 to Calais at the border than up #1 in New Brunswick.
This route will take you about two weeks to N.S. first than to P.E.I.
You will not be going to the Tattoo so time can still be spent touring the sites in and around Halifax, the fort on the hill, Peggy's Cove and many others time will hold.
Than you head off to the red shores of P.D.I.
Cape Britten and other sites you can visit on your return trip and there will be a return trip I know.

I would suggest the following route - travel north on I95 crossing into New Brunswick at Woodstock, head south on Hwy 2 thru Fredericton then Moncton you can catch the Confederation bridge to PEI just south of Moncton then take the ferry back to Nova Scotia, at that point I'd consider a side trip to Cape Breton then back to Halifax then south thru the Annapolis Valley and catch the ferry from Yarmouth, NS to Bar Harbour, Maine.

Regards, Roger

Since the high speed CAT service between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth was discontinued several years ago, I believe the only ferry is between Portland and Yarmouth. Yes, it saves a day of driving but it's not inexpensive since you are charged by the vehicle and the passenger and the trip takes all day so there are meal costs and even cabin costs, if you are so inclined. A quick look at the prices gave me an estimated cost of just less than $600 without a cabin or meals.

These link to the ferries might help with planning:
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & PEI Ferry Services
http://www.marine-atlantic.ca/index....-redirect=true (for these ferries, they charge by total length. If your hooked-up length is 60' or more you pay much more) Yes, they actually measure every RV rig. The total cost is about the same as driving around + CG's, but you save about 3 days.
