I know that many years ago it was member only. We tried to stop there and we where turned away. The state park is down the road a few miles and they take anyone in.

It's in the middle of nowhere - long drives for doing things and even buying groceries. The state park is much better if you weren't planning long-term.

Not sure why you give negative responses here and in other Forums...you forgot to mention all the dust storms. Maybe a little more research on the subject would be good.

First of all Picacho Peak is NOT a destination place but a place to visit and take in some of the ambiance and history in this area of the SW. Like visiting Tombstone, Bisby, Benson, Katchner Caverns, Nogales...and the list goes on.

We stay in Casa Grande which is not far at all (18 miles) and there are smaller towns closer like Eloy (less than 5 miles) that have services including RV Parks with all the amenities including full hookups if that is what you want.

If traveling 5 miles to stock up on food, fuel etc. is to far for some so be it.
Food Town IGA is a full-service grocery store with an on-site butcher shop, bakery and deli in Eloy. Link to store.

If one wants the big box stores, more choices for dining, a Regional Medical Center then Casa Grande is only 18 miles N on I-10.

To the OP: With all that said enjoy your travels and Picacho Peak could be one you'll enjoy.

These were at the State Park.
The resort is very nice, but a good commute to supplies.

Lots of Picacho hate here! The park itself is nice. If you're looking for hiking and solitude, then it's a great place worthy of a long weekend. I wouldn't want to spend a week there, but that's just because I would get bored. Again, it all depends what you're looking for.

Hi Dave & Nola! We're considering a few days at Picacho State Park on our trip. Haven't decided yet. (Still have time before we have to decide.) How long did y'all stay there?

We stayed there for a week in each of the last 2 seasons. Superb!
Not on our dance card yet, but let us know when you will be there.
Hugs!
