We are planning to go to Pittsburgh this spring. I looked for campgrounds on most of the camping websites, Good Sam, Passport America etc.

It appears there is nothing close to PIT. Most of the places are 40-50 away.

Does anyone know if there is anything closer?

Thanks

Many years ago, I took a job in Pittsburgh, and lived in an RV while I was selling my house and buying one there. The closest place that I could find was a KOA in Butler, PA. It wasn't close, but at least, it was an easy drive without a lot of traffic.

You can check on the Allstays campground site and also on RVParky.com.
In looking at RVParky.com it looks like there are a few campgrounds within 18-25 miles of downtown Pittsburgh. There are a couple of KOA's listed.

I know there is one I stayed in two years ago in Tarentum. It was down Bull creek road. It was called mountain top ( or something like that). Wasn't much but it was close. It was full of rvers that are working on the tracking for natural gas.

Indian Brave campground is just a short ride north on I79 in harmony Pa. If you continue north to exit 96 you could stay at Bear Run campground we have stayed at both over the years both have web sites. Indian Brave is closer to stores and restaurants , both are easy on and off the interstate. Hope this helps.

The closest to downtown Pittsburgh (~20 miles) is Mountain Top CG near Tarentum. The take Passport America. I live about 10 miles from Mountain Top.

Mountain Top Campground in Pennsylvania
