There are several places along the Columbia on both WA and OR sides. Right where Hiway 97 crosses at Biggs Junction is Maryhill Park--right on the water. It's a good base camp for excursions to Stonehinge, Maryhill Winery and the Museum. There are other wineries further up the road. Hood River isn't too far and has several nifty brewpubs and lots of shops.

When at Leavenworth, keep going east and enjoy Wenatchee and, our favorite, Lake Chelan. The city park there is on the lake and within walking distance of downtown . There is a nice state park on the south shore. Absolutely gorgeous area. We can hardly wait for our vacation in July.

There are a lot of free camping spots along the Klickitat- most managed by Wa. Fish and Wildlife. No utilities, tables, etc., but riverfront. You'll need a Discover Pass or Fishing Licence- attached parking pass, but otherwise it's free.

We have never been to Klickitat, hopefully that will be changing soon!

Our two favorites in Eastern WA are Beebe Bridge County Park, on the bank of the Columbia close to Lake Chelan, and Charbonneau SP, near the tri-cities.

Beebe Bridge is one of the best-maintained parks we've ever stayed at. The individual sites are widely separated, many are pull-thrus and the price is very reasonable (particularly after Labor Day). Last year we were there the Wednesday after the holiday and found they'd gone to their "off season" rates. As seniors, we got a pull-thru for $12 a night. It made up for the $40 a night at Icicle River Resort the previous two nights.

We haven't been to Charbonneau for a while. We're hoping to get over there in September, as DW is recovering well from her rotator cuff surgery. Although it's listed as a State Park, it's run by the Army Corps of Engineers. It's also on the side of the river (the Snake, I think).

If you want to go sightseeing at either place, you need a toad. Beebe Bridge is about 4 miles from downtown Chelan and Charbonneau is at least 10 miles from anywhere.

Sounds wonderful! Tell your DW my thoughts are with her. DS had that done a year ago.
