Hello all
Were planning a trip for September to go to Yellowstone then thinking continuing to south Dakota to see mt Rushmore.
This is sort of a national parks trip since most of our trips are south to the good weather.
Can any member give me suggestions of what to see. Our plan is to run east from seattle and spend about a month or more then come back to seattle then head south when we get tired of rain and cold.

you might want to search this forum. Lots of threads on Yellowstone. We read all the threads on Yellowstone and came away with great suggestions and planed our trip accordingly. Reading all the previous threads will keep you busy! Enjoy

IMHO - might just think about catching a little Glacier National Park..

More likely much More time will be needed for this trip - YNP will still be Crowded - But what a Great time to Visit.

then come back to Seattle

I'd recommend you continue south into Colorado - might just get luck with some of the Best weather of the trip.

Why go back and catch the Cold Damp Rain when you can get Sun Filled Days in the Rockies.................

then head south when we get tired of rain and cold.

We recently stayed at the Palmer Gulch KOA with our granddaughter. It's about 4 miles from Mt Rushmore, has lots of activities and is well run.

In late September we're staying at the Rafter J Bar Ranch near Hill City while attending the Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park. Both are good options.

Each national park has an excellent web site giving things to do, road information, special alerts and campground information. Here is Yellowstone's. Mount Rushmore will have one, also. Make sure it's the 'nps' site.

Note that some campgrounds in the park itself start closing in Sept. Mammoth campground is open year-round. We love it! First come.

Don't forget about Grand Teton National Park right next door to Yellowstone. It's completely different in looks and things to do. We like Gros Ventre campground or Colter Bay campground (different from the RV park next door). Both of these have 300 non-reservable sites and we've always gotten a site in the 3 seasons with our 40' motorhome.

Enjoy your trip. It's a beautiful time to be there!
